Reference books are all dandy and all, but I believe there are more important books that needs to be read.

The #1 book I would give to all new doctors is How Doctors Think. Gives you a quick perspective to get your brain thinking like senior doctors with many years of troubleshooting experience. #2 is not a medical book but equally important nonetheless, How to Win Friends & Influence People. Patients are people too, and you need to learn how to deal with them, especially the difficult ones. Although this book is old, the fundamentals dealing with people hasn't changed one bit.
