I always feel like I am throwing money away when I buy toys for children because they are broken or cease to be played with within a week.

It's true that happen most all the time, unless you keep the toys hidden, but this is not good idea, because the point is that they use them. It's better to buy few and when they broke them to buy a new one or if you buy too many too keep away some of them and when they get tired of them, then you give them the others.

Then you are really doing something wrong in the parenting department. When I was a child, my parents taught me to respect my toys and take care of them...or I didn't get any.

I suggest you teach your kids some important lessons. Take all the gifts away and give them to kids at the homeless shelter who'd really appreciate them. Then let your little darlings know that from now on, the money you spent on gifts will be better spent for kids at the shelters. That should teach a great lesson.

And toys with more potential are invariably more expensive; then they're either the favorite toy for a long time (5% chance) or never played with at all.

oh come on, toys are bought to be broken.......thats no big deal.......in fact if ur kids really are doing it, it means they know how to enjoy life, and that isnt very common these days. just let the matter rest where it is.
