FSM is a parody religion designed to show how stupid religions can be. What it does it that it shows how the arguments that supported certain religions (i.e. “since there are no evidence against the existence of God, God must exist”) are wrong. To find out more about this religion, you can use Wikipedia and search it up on the internet.

It is a SPECTACULAR play on the beliefs of the highly religious. It specifically addresses the idea of teaching the theory of Intelligent Design in schools. Since the theory isn't truly scientific, many are opposed to teaching it in schools. There are those who "believe" in the ultimate deity, the Flying Spaghetti Monster, and say that since they believe he made the world, it should be taught in schools. It's a joke to illustrate a point. There's also a website if you want to look it up.

A link to the official website is below. The Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster was created to illustrate the logical fallacies inherent in the kinds of arguments used by other religions to justify their beliefs, especially Intelligent Design. This is accomplished by example by creating an entire actual religion using the same methods, but one whose tenets are unfamiliar enough for people to be objective about assessing their validity (beer volcanoes in heaven, and the causal relationship between global warming and loss of pirates, for example). This is necessary because early childhood religious indoctrination generally makes objective analysis of one's own religion impossible. For example, religious scholars often use "direct knowledge" arguments for "knowing" the truth of their holy books after they realize that no objective criterion suffices. Likewise, one learns the Truth Gospel of the FSM by praying hard enough to be touched by His Noodly Appendage. Since this process of knowing is part of the Gospel itself, the power of suggestion might be considered as playing a role.

It is not meant to disrespect other religions. If other religions come out looking ridiculous nonetheless, it is because of their logical equivalence to The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.
