my prescription is
-3.75
-3.50
no astigmatism

now, the thing is the following.I've always worn contacts, and I've almost never worn my glasses, since I went directly to contacts when they were first prescribed to me (I was 11 ys old)
Now, I'm quite tired of contacts and to be honest, I like some of the frames (not quite confortable with how they look on me but I'll get used to that)
I was just wondering, with that prescription, could I be just an "occasional wearer" (I mean for driving, movies, etc)
or will it be impossible for me to manage without them? (I'm talking about completely leaving contacts for a while and wearing eyeglasses but taking them on and off throughout the day, not leaving them on from when I wake up till when I go to bed as I used to do with contacts)

I could have both, but it would be uncomfortable to be switching from one to the other in the same day

With your prescription, anything further away than 25 to 30 cm (about 10-12 inches) will not be clear. If you don't mind blurry vision, you can not wear your glasses. Most people with your lever of myopia would wear glasses all the time.

Anyway, don't know why you are asking, it is easy to check. Just spend a day without your contacts and see how you manage.

I do think that you will be running into walls if you don't wear either. Why don't you start out by going out to the Mall or something (take your glasses to drive). Take your glasses off as soon as you get there and see how well you do without them. I have a -1.0 and I find it pretty annoying to not wear my glasses if I am anywhere but home. I do like to see. Try it, see if your vision w/o glasses is acceptable to you. I think you would rather see.

Generally, anything above a -1.50Ds would need to be worn almost full time (not needed for reading though). But at your prescription level, you would need to wear spectacles full time.

eg If your prescription is -4.00Ds, you can see clearly (without glasses) at 1/4 metres ie 25cm, and anything further than that, starts to blur. So a -1 is perfectly clear to 1m, -2 to 50cm and so on.

No you will more than likely need your glasses and or contacts all the time. I am not sure why you dont just have both. I have contacts and glasses and love them both.

well, you can decide not to wear correction occasionally if you want. It's highly doubtful that you will be able to do much of anything besides read without them though. Your eyes don't get better by not wearing correction.

If you're old enough, get laser surgery. problem solved. most places offer financing.
