My 3 y.o. daughter is just starting to notice Santa and points him out when we go out. For next year, I'm a little confused about what to tell her about who Santa is and the whole gift issue. Does Santa buy all the gifts or just a few and the parents buy the rest? What do you tell your kids?

My daughter is almost 5 so she is really into santa and we tell her he bring sjust a few presents because we want her to know that mommy daddy, grandma's and grandpas love her too. We also make cookies the night before and leave them out with a cup of milk and a plate of cookies which my husband eats part of them and leaves one with a big bite mark out of it and drinks half the milk..its cute when they get all excited that santa has been here

We do the opposite of the first replier. Best presents from Santa - sensible things from mom & dad. I don't really want 'all the credit' - that's not why I give gifts. And, I like for the kids to think that something magical & wonderful & good is out there in the world.

We tell our kids that Santa comes on Christmas Eve, while they're sleeping & brings them presents! Every year, since they were little, we've watch all of the Christmas specials together - you know, 'Santa Claus is Coming To Town', 'Rudolph', 'Frosty', etc. Those, along with just common social interaction, gives them everything they need to know about Santa.

Best presents are from Santa. Those are the presents the kids usually ask Santa for.
*Tip- use different wrapping paper for the Santa presents.
Go to the Library and read books about Christmas and Santa Claus to her. Let her see the colorful pictures so that she's not scared. Santa and Christmas is magical!
Enjoy this time when she's small enough to still believe.

We were always given the best gifts from mom and dad and then we got the clothes and just one or two gifts we asked for from Santa you should never give santa all the credit.

We always received presents from both Santa and my parents. It was a pretty even mix, but the biggest present was usually from Santa. You don't have to go into a big story about who Santa is - believe me she'll figure that our pretty quickly. You could share with her the true story of St. Nicholas, however, because he was real. His story is what started our tradition of Santa Claus. Just Google him and lots of information will come up.

Also, letting her watch the old clay animation classics like "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" and "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" are such wonderful movies to share with her. I loved them as a child and still love watching them with my son. As a matter of fact we have watched these movies every year since he's been 2 years old and I never had to "explain" Santa to him ... he just figured it out.

Some people say you shouldn't tell your child about Santa because it is a lie. I completely disagree. I finally figured it out as a child and was not scarred from it. It left me with many wonderful, magical memories. It doesn't hurt to allow a child to believe in something that embodies goodness ... and love ... and fun. It teachers them that it's OK to believe in those things in real life ... maybe if more of us could figure that out we'd have fewer things to gripe about and hate and more room in our hearts for kindness and caring and love.

Best of luck with whatever you decide and I wish you Christmas peace ...

Santa always leaves the best present and a stocking full. Everything else is from family members.
