I see under disk management that I have a Primary partition (C:) and a logical drive (D). My computer is saying that my C: is full as I gather that is where I have been saving, by default, all my programs to; while the D: is virtually empty. I am not allowed to move program files from C: to D: so the problems remains. Should I just re-install my operating system (XP Professional)? Am I to remove the partition or keep it? That is also a bit of confusion! I would prefer to avoid using a program like partition magic. Anyway to this internally? Also, it is no problem reinstalling Windows if it is more efficient as I do not have anything important other than program files. Please and Thank You ahead of time!

Happy Holidays!

It would help if you answer the following questions (for yourself, if no one else.)
1) How big are the two partitions?
2) can you use D: to back up your data, or as your primary data drive?
3) will having D: at its current size impede your installing programs to C:?
If the current partition scheme is an impediment, then backing up, repartitioning and reformatting makes sense. If it's not an impediment, then you should be able to make good use of it.

..ok so ima guess that u have windows xp on both partitions u should see if u can merge the two that would put some memory back to the main drive but the real question is ur c drive usually has most of the memory and ima guess u have lets say 200gb of memory or 150 gb and there split evenly or close like if u have a 200 memory its 100 for c and 100 for d but if i were u i would delete some of the unused files off the c drive considering that if u have 70gb of space and ur useing 70 gb of space that u dont need all those documents or applications i mean if its P0rn then delete it but u should ether delete thhe unused apps/docs and / or merge the partitions

basically, a partition is a division wherein it divided your hard disk space to two drives. mostly, this are used so that even at the event of viruses, you can back up your files in the other drive and reformat the first drive.

for your problem, you can try uninstalling the programs in c and reinstall them on d. that way, you don't have to reinstall the os and reinstall all your programs again.

even if you reload XP on to HD again and you plan on putting basic same files back and its full now, then chances are it will still be full
what size drive are you use? if its like a 40g or 80g chances are this is just not enough space
you might want to think about a larger one 120-160g
all HD are partition by default with a part of it set aside for backups
go to control panel, adminstrative tool, computer managerment, then find disc management and click that
this will show you a true image of your HD and whats left on it for space.
C by default it whats used for everything
and the other partition is for backups
D drive is usually for CD/DVD roms though
and then E. F , G and so on for flash drives and any thing else you plug in
to reload system just be sure its set to boot from disc, insert XP disc and follow instructions
be sure you back up any thing you want to save before you do this.
the instructions will till you how to wipe out the partitions etc
