I sincerely think those who "speak in tongues" aren't trying to fake anything. They just let the sincere emotions get away with them. Kind of like how a placebo will make a person feel sleepy if that is what they are told it will do. I bet you people will even halucinate on a placebo if they are told they are taking a haluninagenic.

Speaking in tongues is one of several gifts of the Spirit. It is pure communication with the Lord and it is impossible for Satan to intervene. An interpreter is supposed to be present to interpret under the Divine guidance of the Holy Spirit. Often times tongues is to praise and glorify the Lord. When I have spoken in tongues, I was finishing before I knew I was speaking in tongues. One language sounded like some kind of Chinese, but the man spoke only English and Latin. My tongue is a Latin based, I don't remember any French because I haven't used it since I was a child and I flunked Spanish. I've heard some that I wouldn't even begin to try and identify the root. Those hearing tongues can not know what is being said because it is a language known only to God, even though the languages sound similar to many languages of today. There may be some who pretend to speak in tongues, but I would consider it to be a sin, if not blasphemy.

Hopefully those unsaved people would have enough sense to recognize a foolish display for what it is and not to equate it with the word of God. That said, it behooves us to look more to our own folly than our neighbor's.
God bless you and Merry Christmas!

St. Paul makes clear in 1 Cor. 12 & 13 that these gifts are given for the sake of the Church and not for the person himself.
The pentecostal error that to be saved one must manifest the charismatic gifts, especially speaking in tongues, is condemned by the Church.
Rather, faith, hope and charity are the gifts that all must have to be saved, and of these only charity (love) will survice death into eternity.

Well, if they have been taught that if you do not speak in "tongues", then you do not have the holy spirit, what do you expect people to do?
What they seem to ignore is the fact that the "tongues" in the book of Acts were human languages.
So let them do it in Spanish, Chinese, Russian, Swahili etc.
