I have been selling on ebay for the last 6 months. I sell mostly high end stuff (iPhones, laptops, ipods, blackberries, Hi-Def camcorders, etc...) What are the advantages or disavantages of selling high-value on Amazon? Is it hard to start selling expensive stuff there (it took me 3 months of selling cheap books and DVD's to build up my feedback on ebay before I started selling higher and higher end stuff)? Is it easy to sell overseas on Amazon (70%) of my sales are overseas right now because of the low value of the dollar. Are there are high risk of buyer fraud like there is on ebay?

Hi Jack,

I've been an eBay seller for ten years and still do pretty well on it. However I have heard a lot of success stories about Amazon so I've started looking into it as well.

First thing you should know is that Amazon has some categories 'closed' to new sellers because they have too many. So you probably want to check your category to find out if you can even sell on there or if you're going to be on a wait list.

As far as international sales are concerned, I think the biggest problem is that the Amazon has set prices for shipping so if your items are too heavy that could become an issue. You would have to bump up the price of the heavier items in order to make that money back.

It seems to me that Amazon is much more involved with sales than eBay so the chances of fraud are actually less. People don't get to arbitrarily make claims about not receiving it, etc as they can on eBay.

All in all, I think it's definitely worth investigating. A lot of sellers are going multi-channel and finding it much more profitable.

Best of luck!

You'll probably get a higher price on Amazon than on eBay but you have to wait for a buyer too. Amazon has stricter rules for the sellers and set shipping fees. Actually, I probably sell more on eBay to overseas customers than on Amazon cause I can list an item with the cheapest shipping rate I can find.

I've never ran into any fraudulent buyers on either site. I have run into tons of fraudulent/poor sellers on both though.

Definitely Amazon for books - plus you only pay fees when you sell them.
