I think you are missing a lot by not going to high school. As for the drugs, sex and gangs...just stay clear of people who do those things. Get involved in school clubs or athletics and run with those crowds rather than the troublemakers.

While home schooling has some advantages, it takes so much away from high school age kids. You don't make new friends, you don't have as much social interaction, and the things you mentioned like dances and football.

It might be hard for a little while at a new school with new people, but just remember, you aren't the only one in that situation. There will be quite a few "new" kids there.

p.s. - my wife's boss has nine kids who are home schooled by his wife. One got his girlfriend pregnant, another was caught stealing, and a bunch of he others fight among themselves (really fight! punching, kicking)...so everything isn't perfect in home school land.

Well you'll only get involved in drugs, sex, gangs, and clicks if you CHOOSE to, and if you're smart you know what the right choice is and won't give in to peer pressure... You WILL have to do the homework though, and a lot of it is ridiculously repetitive. And honestly, in highschool the teachers aren't always that great. They're busy, overworked, overstressed, overtired, and miserably underpaid, and though it isn't their fualts it can sometimes show in their attitudes.

If you remain a homeschooler, why can't you join a homeschool support group or co-op... That way you can take classes in small groups with friends, have other teachers now and then, see people, go on field trips, have parties, prom, dances, etc. There is NO reason a homeschooler should only see their mother day in and day out. If not a support group or co-op, why not just get involved in some clubs in the community... Join a sports team, take up an individual sport like fencing, swimming, martial arts, etc, join a class at an art or ceramics studio, or dance, or take up a musical instrument. Some music schools even have small band or chorus or orchestra classes for homeschoolers. You might find a drama club, or a computer club, or a book club, or anything. Check your library system. Many libraries have clubs and activities for teenagers as well as adults. See if you can volunteer at places like the hospital, the soup kitchen, teh animal shelter, Good Will, the salvation army, the library, or even local schools and daycares. You could even duel enroll at the local community college if you think you'rwe ready. All of these are great ways to meet people who will play the role of teacher or leader as well as meeting new friends.. Some might even be both! And once you meet people you like, STAY IN TOUCH WITH THEM! There's nothing stopping you from getting friends' phone numbers and calling, or IMing or texting, then meeting up places like the mall or the movies or the park (also places you can go to to make friends), or even having new friends over to your house some afternoons. It isn't that hard. Homeschoolers lead very active and healthy social lives. You've just got to realize there is more to the world than school and home.

C'mon, high schools really aren't full of people forcing drugs down your throat and gangs. Sure, if you search around enough you will find them, but there's a lot of non-drug-using virgins out there.

As for the 2 hours of homework each night, there's not THAT much. You have a surprisingly large amount of free time during the school hours (study hall, classes when the teacher doesn't feel like teaching, etc) and if you work on homework during that time, then it's not too much when you come home. Just remember-- your freshmen year of high school is the hardest year out of all four of them.

The hardest part will be the drama, caused mostly by myspace, xanga, and facebook. Never pour your heart out on these sites, because it will hurt you in the end.

But high school isn't anything like what you see on TV.

I think you should go to high school but check here first:

and make sure it's rated at least a 5. Mine was a 9.

Ok first of all - are you in a local home school group right now? If not, there are probably other home school kids in your area you can meet up with if it is purely a social issue.

However if you choose public school - just so you know you will have home work. I don't think 2-3 hours a day - but that depends on your classes. As for drugs etc.... if you don't WANT to do drugs - DONT DO THEM. If you don't want to have sex - DONT DO IT. Simple as that.

There are many benefits I think to going to public high school - dating, dances, etc. But it is also a place where you prepare to go to college. Now that being said, it is important to take your education seriously starting from your freshman year. And this does mean you will have work, you will have higher math and sciences, be expected by the time you graduate to know civics and econ and you will have less freedom. If you are WILLING to do all that work, and focus on school first then you probably should go.

also research the high school you will be going to. Will you really be getting a better education there and what are the school statistics.

If there isn't any uniform standards, then you definately can placed on in spite of as long because it fits in with the school's gown codes. easily no offensive clothing, no somewhat skimpy clothing (too short skirts, shorts, abdomen shirts, tube tops, and so on.). that is ordinarily in basic terms effortless experience. And there at the instant are no regulations announcing you won't be able to placed on something too high priced, yet Gucci and Chanel could make some young ones view you as snotty or materialistic. once you're apprehensive approximately that, then possibly choose for an effortless bag like Dickies or Jansport? in basic terms being trustworthy, lol. solid luck!

If you are apprehensive about your ability or resolve to stay away from drugs, sex, gangs, and cliques, perhaps you should reconsider whether you want to go to public high school. In many school districts, everything you named is the norm.

There are homeschool groups that have dances, homecoming, and some even have sports. Please consider carefully what is important--social/extracurricular activities or learning. They both have their place, but you can be involved in social/extracurriculars via homeschool groups, community activities, the park district, etc.

I hope this is helpful.

I think that just knowing that there are dangererous things to get involved in, and not wanting to get mixed up in those things, is a good sign. You know what to stay away from, you can be strong and make good decisions for yourself.

My kids like homeschooling, but if one of them wanted to go back to school I'd encourage them to go. I'd encourage them to stay away from people making the bad choices and get involved with those making good choices.

If school isn't working out, you can always go back to homeschooling.
