I've only ever reported two people because of threats of violence. However, I am notorious with thumbs-down. You and Barbara are saints, Poppy.

OK, I want to know where all the people who have claimed to have a humongous number in the bin are.

I have a few blocked. I understand why people are against the blocking policy and for the record I NEVER block someone for simply having a different view point.
I block people who connect to me to go through my Q&A and report me or those who boast about reporting everyone - I've put a lot of work into this account and I do not intend to lose it.
I block people who spam with cut and paste answers that have nothing to do with the question - I don't want them posted their trash on my questions, if they wish to soap box they can go else where.
I block people who make multiple accounts to harass people. I also block a convicted rapist who is on here quite regularly, hate mailing and stalking people. He often has about 6-7 accounts at any given time.
I only block people who pose a threat to me or my account or who won't back off even after being repeatedly asked to.
If anyone can find fault with me for that then so be it. But I never block without reason and I never use it as a form of censorship or to simply exclude people with different views.
(I just checked - there's 84 on my blocked list but I think half of those accounts are inactive or deleted anyway...)

I rarely feel the need to block people in Y!QA.
Yet I have blocked 5 people (in Y!QA-France, not Y!QA-USA):
- 4 fanatical muslims who openly threaten atheists (deadly threats in disguise, not simply insults);
- 1 guy who pasted allegedly "kind" links that actually are virus injecting links... I fell into the trap, got a virus alert but hopefully (after a virus scan) I got nothing harmful for my computer.
I don't care about those 5 persons but I don't want them to answer my questions.
I am an atheist and because of those persons, I don't feel free to say I am an atheist to muslims in France.
I am glad that I know the truth about some fanatical muslims in France (and elsewhere) because I am more careful now.
That's so strange... I don't feel free to say I am an atheist because of those threats from fanatics.
Christians are not a problem for me. In the USA, many christians insult atheists (and reciprocally) but there is no deadly threats.
In France, I know that I must not tell muslims I am an atheist, because some of them consider that atheists are the worst non-muslims (kafir) in the World.
Gosh: if only fanatics could disappear from Earth's surface in 2008...
I don't care about rude persons and bigotry. Each time I get an insulting answer, I just click on "thumb down", then I totally forget that answer.
If I received an insulting email, I would not reply and would definitely block that person. Emails are more personal...

I used to block users that started in 2005, and were in Level 1 or 2 ----- something very fishy about that. I've blocked people who have added me in the middle of the night, then were not in my fans --- they were snooping, I'd say --- just doing a drive by --- checking to see who my contacts were, and look over my questions/answers. I have seen avatars that have been in Level 3 or 4 forever, but have been answering questions regularly ---- what is with that? Some of them hardly asked any questions, so it was suspicious. I've blocked new contacts if I suddenly start getting tons of violations as soon as they join, and I've blocked people that send me hate mail.

I don't have anyone blocked currently but I did have one blocked in the past for about a month.
I take a reverse approach and add thoughtful free thinking people to my contact list. I then focus on their replies and for most part ignore the meanies.
What exactly does blocking accomplish anyway? I know that it prevents blocked folks from reading your contact and Q/A list as well as viewing your questions, but what other effects does it have? Just curious.

I have 16 people blocked, 6 of whom are the same person believe it or not. The others got there because they were extremely rude to me and because they spammed my mailbox. Some stalked me and deserved their seat there.
I'm with Barbara. I also don't believe in reporting or thumbing down policy.

I probably have the most people blocked of anyone here. There is an active movement form the JW's To have my account closed. they have had it done before and it may be done again.
I don't personally care, I will just create another one...I have 2 people blocked with about 25 accounts each....They spend allot of time reporting me and trying to have my answers removed...so...I just double my answers, and answer under different avatars....fun for me...keep them guessing where I will pop up next.

I have 102 blocked. My most common reasons are rudeness and bigotry, too, but I also block if a person is just plain incoherent or is playing stupid games. The What Should I Do Idiot, for example, or the people who give completely non-responsive answers just so they can tell everyone they're going to hell if they don't accept Jesus as their savior.

I only have two blocked. I had three, but one of the profiles was removed.
One of the two was stalking my friend on here- So I blocked him so that he could not get to her profile or see her questions through me.
The other one I blocked a long time ago- He was probably being highly offensive.
The one who's profile was removed, well I can't remember why I blocked him- But he must have deserved it since his profile was removed.
It takes seriously bad behavior for me to block someone.

I have blocked no one...I know what I believe and why I believe it...I am not intimidated by those who have not been given the same light...As far as rudeness..I've been fortunate to have only been shot at a very few times and have received only one very angry e-mail from a young kid who missinterpreted an answer that I had given...
Sticks and stones may break my bones(and also bricks),but words cannot harm me...Well,unless I'm facing a firing squad and the Captain yells out:"Ready,aim,fire...I don't care who you are, that would ruin anyone's weekend.
