I find taking the subway is the fastest and least expensive. Don't take a cab unless you have the money to spend and don't mind sitting in a constant traffic jam.

Walking thru Central Park is a must. Also, The Guggenheim and the Natural Museum of History. They are on opposite sides of the park, widthwise.

The Jekyl and Hyde restaurant in Greenwich Village is great. It has a spooky, Halloween type atmosphere. PJ Clarkes is a great Irish Pub with excellent food. It's at 55th and 3rd.

Check out Madison Square Garden (near Penn Station) to see if there are any shows or sporting events going on that interest you.

I love NYC. Me and my family go there every Thanksgiving week.

You can spend a lot of time in the time square area. There is Broadway, Madame Tussuad, Ripley's believe it or not, Toys R Us, watch the ball drop etc... Check out their website http://www.timessquarenyc.org/ Another great place to go is 34th street. It has your main clothing shopping like macys, old navy and gap. For the best transportation check out hopstop.com. You can get info about taxi and subway. I would go to a museum and ask for a subway map. They have the pocket ones that are easy to navigate.
