Because in it is combined all of the attributes that are against the attributes that control a person when they break God's laws which He demonstrated by sending his dear Son Jesus to make a way for us to be redeemed from our sins.
1 Corinthians 13:1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. 2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. 3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.
4 Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, 5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; 6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; 7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
Philippians 2:3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. 4 Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.
5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Theology is not important to God, and charity bring rewards to those who are charitable.
God just set up the rules and we just sink or swim according to how we follow those rules.

Because a person who always acts in love towards God, others, and himself will do no evil.
Because a peson who always acts in love towards God will have God as his compass.
Because a person who always acts in love towards others will show others the truth and help them become better human beings.
Because a person who always acts in love towards himself will will keep himself from evil and become a better human being.
I Cor13: 8 Charity never faileth
The real challenge is to always, every instant, to act in love towards God, others, and our own person.

the greatest commandment is to love. and the word charity literally means perfect love or Christ-like love. not necessarily going out and feeding the homeless. charity in the Bible just means to show real love.
