i mean, it is a little silly, in the quaran it does not say that women cannot drive or in any hadith
it says that their duty is to teach and protect the children and thats it
it actually states that is the women complete thier duty to the children they can even work
my father says it is due to religous politics that started after
our beloved prophet mohamed passed away, Allah bless him

The Associated Press reports, Saudi Arabia's prohibition against women driving is not based on secular or Islamic law. It's down to fatwas issued by senior Islamic clerics, who claim driving "creates situations for sinful temptation.

I dont know either since women rode camels in the Prophet (peace be upon hims) time and no other Muslim country (including Iran ) forbids women driving
The main reason put forward by Saudi clerics is the principle
of sadd a dharai (block the means to evil) which is a strong fiqhi principle in the Hanbali maddhab . This principle is that things that are normally allowed are forbidden if they lead to an evil .
This is an Islamic principle based on the Quran 6: 108
"And do not abuse those whom they (pagans) call upon besides Allah, lest exceeding the limits they should abuse Allah out of ignorance"
So while they argue women driving is allowed it is prevented because it may lead to an evil - women meeting unmarried men etc - however this leads to the bizarre situation in Saudi of women being driven around by chaffauers (non-mehrem men)!!!

Women have NO rights in Saudi Arabia. They are not allowed to leave their own home unless they are escorted by an adult male relative...and she must be completely covered. She is not allowed to attend school beyond religious schools and only until 12 years old. She is not permitted to visit a male doctor. She isn't permitted to visit a female doctor unless her husband is with her.
She has the same status as cattle or sheep.
Oh, and the Bush family have been friends of the Saudi Princes for 25 years....good friends...they visit each other.

Saudi is controlled by the Wahhabi sect. They make the Ayatollah of Iran look like a liberal hippy dude.
But we love the Wahhabi's because they sell us oil.
Wahhabis say no women in the front seat of a car, and that they walk ten paces behind the man.

Forget Saudi Arabia...Why can't women drive anywhere? I have been asking myself for years....who is teaching all these women to drive? I must get road rage at least a few times a week over women drivers who do the most ridiculous things on the road. Guys I know you are with me on this one, and women I know I am going to get clobbered for this one, but its true...you all have at least one or two women you know who absolutely are terrible behind that wheel and you shriek in terror whenever you have to drive with them.

I'm assuming that you are Muslim, but I wonder why you can't spell Koran? Anyways, it is because women are seen as being something less than human. Did you not notice our inferiority or incompitence? I didn't either :-)
Happy Holidays!

does it matter? as long as the leaders of Saudi Arabia keep filling the pockets of the US leaders, they will get away with any lame-brained excuse for medieval oppression they like.
when life gives you lemons, make lemonade.
(or in the case of Saudi Arabia, it makes darn good fertilizer)

Islam treats women as 10th class citizens. In some Islamic countries it is illegal for them to go to school or work, and they can be set on fire for certain offenses.
