Car was stolen, then recovered, with some damage.

I have comprehensive.

Insurance company is sure to cover body work.

Will they also check and/or compensate me for less obvious damage (i.e. the wear and tear to the car incurred from being drag-raced for several hours)?

Will they compensate me for items of value stolen out of the car? How does that work?

First, you MUST MUST MUST read your policy as that is the only place to find the exact answers to your questions. Second, you generally do not receive anything for items stolen out of your car...that falls under your renters/homeowners policy. Third...auto insurance DOES NOT PAY for wear & tear items that are not damaged due to the stolen vehicle claim. And you can beat drag racing is specifically excluded in your policy.

Ok- first lets say what DEFINATELY will be covered. You will get a check for the damages caused to your vehicle while it was stolen.

Now lets talk about what will definately NOT be covered- personal items are NOT covered under car insurance. No if, and, or butts... you will absolutely NOT get reimbursed for them. They are covered by homeowners insurance if you have it.

As far as wear and tear... ive honestly never had a claim with that. Can you even prove there is wear and tear? aka- if you cant find any damage from it... you are absolutely NOT getting money for it. Even if there is wear and tear (lets say they rubbed the tires down low) you would need to see specifically under your policy. But your not just gonna get some "depreciation" check or something for damages you can see.

Probably not, but it depends on a couple of things.
First, you have to prove, somehow, that these items really were in your car when it was stolen. That could be difficult.

Second, if you are able to prove the above, then it depends on where your car was parked when it was stolen. If it was in your driveway, then your car insurance company may say that you need to file a claim with your homeowners policy, subject to your deductible.

Personally, I have had my car burglarized twice, and have never been successful in receiving any compensation from the insurance company because I could not prove I has items in my possession.

Wear and tear for the milage issues are NOT going to be covered. If, however, they blew a gasket, that WOULD be covered.

Items stolen from the car are only covered if they're stock items, and built in - like a steering wheel, or the spare tire. If it's personal stuff, like your cd's, or dry cleaning or what not, you need to file a seperate claim under your homeowners or renters policy.

Wear and tear is specifically excluded by the auto policy.

Personal property that was stolen from inside the car will not be covered under the auto policy. That may be covered under any homeowners/renters policy. The Homeowners/renters insurance deductible will apply.

No, there's no way to quantify "wear and tear from drag-racing".
