Hello.
My sister recently got a burn on her inner forearm, about an inch and a half long, 1 centimeter wide from touching a hot skillet. It immediately blistered afterwards, but the next day, aout half of the blister was accidentally ripped off of her, leaving half of the burn exposed. She got the burn about 2 days ago, and we believe we have been treating it adequetely. Unfortunetly, looking at it today, it is obviously infected, because it has now become red and puffy around the area of contact. My question is, how exactally would we go about treating an infected burn, as to make the infection from spreading, and also to allow the burn to fully heal. Thanks a lot for your help, and a quick answer would greatly be appreciated.
Thank you.

Do you have any neosporin in the house? Use that. Also have her take some aspirin to get rid of the pain and help fight the infection. Keep the wound clean and if you have to apply some gauze lightly on the burn so that it does not touch anything when she sleeps. I would use some kind of saline solution on it too. Do you have any? This will help until she sees a doctor. Push comes to shove...use some Vaseline on it to help seal the wound. Gauze it at night when she sleeps.

How to treat infected burn

I had a 3" diameter infected burn that eventually had to have skin graft.
First doctor had me do wet to dry gauze pads. Wash with soap and water, rinse well and pat dry. Wet gauze pad with sterile water and tape on burn. about twice a day change the dressing when dry, using the same steps.
When taking dressing off when dry it is best to give strong yank and pull off with one quick pull. It hurts.
When no more pus on gauze and wound bleeds freely then use dry sterile gauze pad and take off in shower slowly and let scab and heal.
Should take up to two weeks.

Silvadine or Neosporin... but mainly... cover it LOOSELY with a sterile dressing to keep it clean but so the air can get to it and change the dressing 2 or 3 times a day.

"Silvadine" is what you would use for such a burn.
If you can not afford to goto the doctors, I would suggest that you goto your local Pharmacy and speak with a Pharmacist. \

Apply an antibiotic cream to the burnt part. You should not bandage the burnt part and it will heal. If it gets worse see a doctor.
