Do you feel guilty for killing(or attempting to kill) others just for sake of your own life?

If yes, how guilty were you? Did it make you think again about what horrible things you are doing as a soldier?
If no, why not?

Be serious please.

You feel some guilt for taking a human life. But not to the extent that you cant deal with it. In that situation I equate it to shooting a dog that I know is in pain. That about how much guilt there is. Not for the person themself. But for the fact that you took a life.

You answer the first question.
What would be your opinion if you were in a position where there are opposing soldiers firing "angry lead bees", RPGs at you with their intention to rid you, the obstacle of their objective? Is the sake of your life less than the knowledge that if you don't respond with like firepower, you'd be asking them this question?
Q#2 - Guilty of what?
Q#3 - What horror are you trying to describe? Anybody who hasn't been in action cannot understand the situation as it happens. There is no understanding of the situation as to why there must be a battle. There is no understanding as to the circumstances that the civilian population has suffered before there was an intervention. And in any war we have been involved in was and is an intervention, never an invasion. Sure, it makes me think now that I'm sitting here, enjoying a beer, of what I participated in. But I'm sitting here knowing that the population I helped try to remove the oppression appreciated the effort. And I know that as I sip my beer and see the people of this nation continue their daily lives without that oppression of the affected countries or the threat of invasion from foreign enemies, that these factors will never be understood entirely by the citizens.

The things we do are not horrible. The things we prevent are horrible. The way we have to do it sometimes is not pretty, but it is nowhere near as worse as what would happen if we didn't do our jobs, the holocost for example. In Iraq today, when you see what our enemies do, planting bombs in toy carts or fruit markets, its not much different then the holocost. Its not about us Soldiers, its not about protecting ourselves, its not about our own sake, its about stopping thing like that from happening.

It would be interesting to hear what a draftee has to say about it, from the Vietnam days, but today we are volunteers. We know what we are signing up for vs those that were conscripted.

I've never met a person that thought of the things you're describing while in battle. Never once have I seen somebody hesitate to pull a trigger.

The tough part normally comes afterwards, when you get back to base and have the time to think and wind down. That's when those thoughts start playing tricks on your mind.

Guilty? Me personally I have no guilt, but I know people that made some decisions that they wish they could take back.

You are an ungrateful prick! I ask you a question in return, Do you feel guilty for not doing anything with your life? I mean that would be the only way someone could be so ungrateful. I am here in Iraq as we speak doing something far greater than you will ever partake in. You truly are a piece of ****, I want you to know that there are hundreds of men here, probably thousands who would give up there lives for you to live without fear...I personally have not seen a whole lot of action here since I have came. I am here with my cousin, who was here in 2003...almost in the exact same place...He was simply amazed when we stepped foot off the plane when we flew in, to say the least. We roll out of the wire every day, not knowing what is going to happen, unaware of the dangers that might be lurking behind each corner...IED, IRL, EFP, complex attacks...knowing each time that could very well be our last mission we ever go out on...for what? that is my question...I all ready know the answer...We do it for you, so that you can sit in your air conditioned apartment, sipping your beer, talking **** about something you have no room to talk **** about! If you ever want to get your *** kicked, I recommend you ask this question to a man that has been here face-to-face...You have no idea how ungrateful you are on christmas nonetheless...People like you are the reason america is so weak as a country!!!

first of all we are not guilty of anything i have regretably taken someones life in combat i did not feel guilty i knew it was kill or be killed he was wrong i was right if he would have surrendered he would still be here but he did not
i hate war and hope no one evey has to kill someone else to stay alive but it happens the world is not perfect and who are u to judge have you been there?
never ask a question in such a way as this again
you should spend some time in our shoes before asking such a question
he who has not walked a mile in my shoes cannot judge me and never will

Last time I checked, I was, and still am doing GREAT things as a soldier..AS*. And to answer your question....I slept like an effing baby, you know why, because me and my guys came home safe to our families and children. For the sake of my own life...please!

The only horrible thing i can think of now is what id like to do to people like you...seriously what a stupid question. My life, and the lives of my fellow soldiers/airmen/marines and sailors are worth far more than someone willing to blow themselves up in a crowded marketplace.

Do I feel guilty, no, does it bother me, I say no, but then, the VA says it does affect me that is why I have PTSD and rated at 100% SC.
Saving ones life comes natural, takeing ones llife, that's not natural, and some can't do it (that's why we have deserters, objectors, and some who talk big)!
In the heat of battle, emptions don't surface, just adrenelin. It's afterwards that ones mind starts to question what they have done.

As to most of those answers here, well it's just talk from wannabes and video game killers.

nope not at all. I wouldnt be guilty killing an Extremist that is high on speed and has a note telling his family that they will be wealthy and that he is heading to alah and to meet his seven virgens along with 700 bucks in us currency all new bills given to him either by Iran or al' qaeda. At least cut their penis off so they cant get laid by their virgins in the after life.

Why are you asking this question? I have a better one would you feel guilty if you killed someone who was trying to kill you? Self Defense is a basic right and is also ingrained into our DNA.
