I like the d40x too. I've been shopping around a lot and the best deal that I have found is a set that comes from olympus. It's the evolt510 (could be 500) that you can buy from retailers with a 2 lens set. I don't know if they offer it where you live.

Word of caution though. Be sure you purchase from a reputable seller. A lot of cameras that are sold online are sold on the "grey market" which means they were intended for sale in a foreign country and may not be eligible for warranty coverage if they are not sold in the country they are intended for sale in. A lot of times they are sold as very very cheap, so you think you are getting a good deal, but if it breaks you arent.

Good luck!

You can get LOADS of value for that money by buying used, from a dealer or eBay.

Check out the "just discontinued" range from Nikon or Canon (I bought a Canon EOS300D when the EOS350 came out), as dealers want to shift existing stock and some sad people trade in the old model as soon as the new one comes out.

My 300D is in pristine condition, it came boxed and now the 400D is about I suspect there will be some very cheap 350Ds around for much less than the £699 they were at first.

It would be much the same with the Nikons I should think. Your budget would allow for an accessory, such as a nice flash or an additional lens.

Take a good look at the Pentax K100D Super and the Sony A100.

The A100 is 10mp, has Super Anti-Shake in the camera body, has dust removal for the sensor, and accepts every Minolta Maxxum AF lens made since 1985.

The K100D Super is 6.1mp, has Image Stabilization (IS) in the camera body, has dust removal for the sensor and accepts every K-mount lens made since 1975. Of course the older non-AF lenses will require manual focus but at least they'll have the benefit of IS.

IMO both these cameras offer more features and benefits than their comparably priced competitors.

D40x is a good start.

My advice would be to go to a specialist photographic shop, handle and compare the 2. Make a decision and then get the best deal on line...

GOOD LUCK AND HAPPY SNAPPING!
