take it to a PROFESSIONAL camera shop, explain... and promise them a donation of £5 to the charity of their choice if they can extract the battery.
Bet you they can fix it in 1 minute on the spot (special pliers are used- happens a lot!

Now you understand why you should first READ & STUDY the Owner's Manual for the camera BEFORE messing with it.
I hope you didn't cause any damage. If you did, your warranty probably will not cover it since putting the battery in wrong is considered abuse.
EDIT: Totally ignore "CERBERUS". Banging any electronic item on a table is an excellent way to destroy it. I can't believe anyone would be foolish enough to even think of that.

Ah bless u honey I bet yr worried sick, I would get some tweezers and try gently twisting the battery round and pulling it out slowly, let us know how u get on or u could always tell yr mum but turn the tears on when u do I,m sure she will feel more sorry than angry. Good Luck

First---take that camera back to store. If instructions are in French, You don't want it. Even if store can get battery out and put in correctly, what good is instructional manual?
Get an exchange!
