Actual radio conversation of US naval ship off the coast of Newfoundland:
Canadians: Please divert your course 15 degrees to the South to avoid a collision.
Americans: Recommend you divert your course 15 degrees to the North to avoid a collision.
Canadians: NEGATIVE. You will have to divert your course 15 degrees to the South to avoid a collision.
Americans: This is the Captain of a US Navy ship. I say again, divert YOUR course.
Canadians: No. I say again, you divert YOUR course.
Americans: THIS IS THE AIRCRAFT CARRIER USS LINCOLN, THE SECOND LARGEST SHIP IN THE UNITED STATES' ATLANTIC FLEET. WE ARE ACCOMPANIED BY THREE DESTROYERS, THREE CRUISERS AND NUMEROUS SUPPORT VESSELS. I DEMAND THAT YOUR CHANGE YOUR COURSE 15 DEGREES NORTH. I SAY AGAIN, THAT'S ONE-FIVE DEGREES NORTH, OR COUNTERMEASURES WILL BE UNDERTAKEN TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF THIS SHIP.
Canadians: This is a lighthouse. Your call.

This has been floating around since atleast 1996 when I first started using the internet, it has been proven as a hoax, still funny though.

Yes I've not only heard it, but have read it as part of my Requirment to read the collisions and Groundings brief.

The moral of the story is "Always know where you are at, and heading".

BTW. The above is not completeley accurate, mainly the CAPS part. It was shorter, and a different Warship THIS IS THE US Warship USS Guessthename. I DEMAND THAT YOUR CHANGE YOUR COURSE 15 DEGREES NORTH. I SAY AGAIN, THAT'S ONE-FIVE DEGREES NORTH.

Good for a chuckle... thanks for that. I ought to make chuckling part of my morning routine.

But it's a joke, nothing more.
