I have a damaged bible that has fallen apart completely, and I need to know how to throw it away. I'm afraid to just throw it in the trash because I fear that God might punish me for doing that? Is it o.k. to throw a damaged bible in the trash as long as you don't burn it? Help me, I'm scared!! I need to feel better about throwing a bible in the garbage because it's the holy book. What should I do?

K, I feel better about throwing it away now. I really needed reassurance. I'm not going to burn it. I would feel bad. I'm more comfortable with simply just throwing it in the garbage. Thank you all.

Put it in the garbage. I'm a Christian, and don't believe in making an idol out of the Bible. Think about your fear of discarding it, and what it's saying. You're giving an inanimate object power over you. If a book is damaged, it gets either repaired or discarded. It sounds as if your Bible is beyond repair, so stop being superstitious and throw it away. Just get a new Bible. The Bible itself, the physical and inanimate object, is not the holy thing here, but rather the meaning that you extract from it.

I would take it to a place where there is a flow of people going through, like a car wash area or a park ( where homeless people are ) and I would place my Bible out in the open somewhere. You never know who might come along and pick it up. Remember the saying "another man's trash is another man's treasure." Throwing it away would never cross my mind because whether it is falling apart or in great shape it holds precious promises and truths that can replenish a dry well in someone's heart. I know without a doubt God will bring that right person to His book and use it mightily. Wouldn't that be awesome?!

have you read the part of the bible that deals with forgivness. However you need to know what the bible stands for
first the word bible means nothing more than paper. Second God stated that he would write his word on your heart. Third Christ said his word would last forever.
By Christ saying that His words would last forever did not mean the book that you carry personaly. A Bible can be thrown out but his word must be in your heart. His word must be lived not just read. The greatest reading of his word does not come from simply reading the Bible but comes when other read your life story and see the God the Bible writters wrote about.

It would be okay to either burn it or throw it in the trash, if your intentions are to discard a damaged book. If you were to burn it in effigy, that would sinful since you are blaspheming against God's word. Bibles wear out, it is not a problem. If you feel truly concerned, tape up the binding and give it to a homeless mission so it might get further use.

Although the Bible is the inspired word of God, the physical book is just a physical book. If it's falling apart throw it away. God doesn't care about that. He's more interested in the things you learn from His word.

Solarius is 100% correct. What you are describing is dangerously close to idolatry. What makes the bible holy is the message of GOD, not the cover and pages and ink in the writing. It doesn't have special powers nor will disposing of it cause you any great harm. Nowhere in the Bible does GOD say "thou shalt not burn any books with my Word upon its leaves." So go for it.

It is just a book after all and God would not punish you for that. Besides, how many bibles have burned up in house fires or even in the twin towers that fell.
If it was mine I would bury it with honors out near a flowering plant. Someone might dig it up in a thousands years and be thrilled.

The bible itself says ...the letter killeth...meaning the word without the spirit of God can hurt or destroy...a bible with nobody to read it and if it is damaged can do nothing for you or anybody else ...I mean think about it...you want to make sure you get the whole truth and nothing but the truth so help you God ...and a bible not fully intact ..cannot give you the whole truth...God bless

Oh, I went through the same thing!!Throw it out as long as your not doing it out of anger. God knows that this bible is falling apart. He wont punish you. If your still in doubt, pray and ask God or call your pastor. Merry Christmas and I'm glad to see a few people who respect God.

There is an organization called Bibles for the World that will take Bibles in any condition, even partial Bibles. People in countries where Christians are persecuted will be very happy to have even a few pages.

In some countries, you will see Christians gathering around to share the one Bible the Church has, copying it down by hand page by page so they can have their own. They are grateful to get whatever Bibles they can have.
