Let them figure it out on their own. No need to tell them. Wait for them to ask you and then answer honestly.

My parents never actually 'told' me he wasn't real... I just figured it out at some point.

I don't think you need to directly tell your child that Santa isn't real; they will realise that for themselves through school friends or watching tv. I was about 7 or 8, I can't remember how I found out exactly but my parents must've realised I'd stopped believing and invited me to help set the presents out under the tree on Christmas Eve. Christmas is more exciting for younger children who still believe in the magic of Santa, so don't burst their bubble before they're ready.

You don't tell them that. You tell them the story of the real Santa -- St. Nicholas.

Why is this such an issue for people? It's really unfortunate that people are so not wanting for their children to keep the magic of childhood innocence alive.
Telling them that Santa is not real would be lying to them. St. Nicholas was the real Santa. :) Also, as long as they know that the true meaning of Christmas is the celebration of Christ's birth, all is well. You can have it both ways. :)

I was kindergarten or first grade, but I found out from a friend, not my parents. So if you plan on telling your child Santa isn't real, too late. Someone else who's parents have been honest with them from the start has already told your child.

I say let them believe as long as they know. But if they generally ask from age 10 and up tell them the truth. And make sure they don't tell anyone like that little brat that spoiled it for me when I was 7. My brother is almost 11 and he still believes =].

Happy holidys!

Well 35 is good but they still might get upset. I realised when i was about 6- when father tripped over the pink blanket he had draped over him creeping around the bedroom leaving presents at the end of the bed.

Although Santa is fun and traditional, I don't think it's right to lie to children about a mythical figure that doesn't truly represent meaning of Christmas. I have 3 very small children and I have no intentions of introducing them to Santa. I let them know that Christmas is Jesus' birthday and we can honor His birthday by loving each other.

Why could I misinform my newborn? i theory Santa grew to become into genuine. in case you're asking whilst i'm going to enable my newborn understand that Daddy and that i are people who stick delivers under the tree ... i'm going to in no way purely pop out and tell her. If she asks, and if i've got confidence that she is in a position to hearken to the certainty, i'm going to tell her. If she asks as though she is purely making verbal replace - i'm going to flow alongside with the delusion. I constantly theory i could spill the beans first time she requested. yet some days in the past, she got here homestead with a bell which you will supposedly purely hear in case you have confidence in Santa. She grew to become into like "i've got confidence in Santa mommy. Do you?" and she or he rang the bell. i grew to become into like "Yeah. it extremely is relaxing to have confidence in Santa."

I was 10. My son is 10 and he is starting not to believe. He's almost 11 and I'll tell him if he sincerely asks. I think 11 is the cut off.

I never believed in Santa. I think the first or second time he asks you if Santa is fake you should tell him the truth.
