Would you say that it is commerialised because in reality it is an empty holiday the reference to Christ is vague and inaccurate, even insulting.

I like the commercialised version much better than the religious one. I call it Secular Gift-Giving day and it includes traditions such as decorated trees, candy canes, santa claus, TV specials, and big family dinners. None of the less entertaining stuff like boring church services or the good old fashion religious guilt trips are anywhere to be found.

Edit: To Snow Globe, I loooove me some marshmallow Peeps. :D

Everything about Christmas has become so twisted up, it's not even funny. Even the day, December 25, is not about Christ. Never has been. But with all the Santa, and snowmen, it's just a complete farce of a holiday. I think those of us that are of the Christian persuasion should just start calling it Xmas, because the Christ we believe in can hardly be found anywhere in Christmas celebration anymore.

By the way, did anybody see the History channel documentary on Christmas the other day? It talked about how the planets were all aligned just right, so that it would appear to be one giant bright star in the sky. They said the date for that was April 17th of the estimated year that Jesus was born. I can't remember the year, I think they were saying 5 or 6 BC (according to our current calendar.)

Yes it is. In the Christian church, Easter is actually the most important holiday, yet is it the most popular? If the candy companies hadn't hyped the whole Easter basket thing, it would be about as popular as Arbor Day. For Christians, Easter is a wonderful day, and the church service is always great, but for most people it's a chocolate bunny and some marshmallow peeps.

To the person above, Xmas is an abbreviation, using X (chi) the Greek letter that begins the word Christ, and mas, for the church celebration. It's a very old term and one I like a lot for it's antiquated snappiness.

In the secular world, yes. In the religious world its about 50/50 and that is due to the negative press involving the nativity, certain freedoms, disbelief in the understanding of Christmas and overall lax attitude about religion by some that only attend at Christmas and Easter and claim to be religious, but participate fully in the commercial side of Christmas. Its been turned into a materialistic Holiday by the secular , non christian America

there;s no doubt that it;s all about money.it;s got nothing to do with religion.that;s just something they hide behind to get you to buy something.it;s the biggest commercialized so called holiday of the year.it should be renamed happy commercialized day.everything is raised in price.sometimes even doubled in price.the only one who benefits from all this is the rich man once again.the next day their counting how much money they made off this so called holiday.and of course screwing the people in the process.yes Christmas is all about the money not about Christ.

If it is connected to a religion it is a very ancient one.
A better question does it have anything to do with Christ?
the answer would have to be no.
I have been watching the TV and all I have heard about is Santa Clause. I have seem a multitude of them. That must be confusing to children. Plus parents lying to them.

Yes, I believe your reasoning. It is true, yet sad because people forget the religious root of Christmas. Given the fact that it is Christ's birth (CHRISTmas), yet people only connect it to presents and 50% off sales. Although these festivities are fun, people should be more aware of it's true meaning.
Merry Christmas!

Christmas is for just who embrace it the pagan and the blind!

The fact that it's also got commercial benefits gives the greedy something to embrace as well.

Christmas is not synonymous with Christianity and it never will be!

It has No Christian foundation and is a pagan ritual that is strictly forbidden by God for His children to participate in! And that goes double for the pagan ritual called "Easter!"

God Bless You!

People that never step foot in a church except for funerals and weddings celebrate Christmas. Now what does that tell you about its sanctity?
