As far as I know, uncles and aunts aren't described as "removed," only cousins. The children of your first cousins are your first cousins once removed. The grandchildren of your first cousins are your first cousins twice removed. And so on.

Aunts and uncles are never removed, only great or grand. Most people use "Grand uncle", then great grand Uncle, 2nd great uncle, 3rd great uncle . . . for the brother of your grand father, great grandfather, and so on.
Removed comes in when cousins have children and for cousins of your ancestors.
Your first cousins' children are your first cousins once removed, or 1C1R for short. Their grandchildren are your 1C2R. When they have great grandchildren, 1C3R and so on. The same for your 2nd, 3rd and all other cousins; 2C1R, 2C2R, . . .
Going th eother way, your parents' cousins of any degree (1st, 2nd, 3rd . . .) are yours to the same degree, but once removed. Your grandparents' are yours twice removed and so on.
Most people don't know anyone further than 2nd cousin or twice removed, usually. I know a woman who is President John Adams' first cousin, seven times removed, and another who is movie actor Tom Cruise's 7th cousin.

a bit more clarification.. the phrase "removed" is only used in terms of cousins, as Ted says.
Cousins share an ancestor, either grandparents or gr gr grandparents, so forth. You may be 5 generations "down" from the ancestor, but your distant cousins are maybe 3 generations or 7 "down.
If you insert the term 'generation' in there, it helps. Where you and a cousin are the same number of generations "down" you are on the same level. Removed comes in when you are cousins, but not on the same level.
1st cousins- same grandparents
2nd cousins - same gr grandparents
3 rd cousins - same gr gr grandparents.
all above are same 'level' from the ancestor. Removed cousins are on different levels.

Puppydog is WAY, WAY, WAY off base! If you don't know what you are talking about, don't post a response. Research your responses before you post an answer. You could seriously misguide someone with your responses!
Ted is 100% correct. No further responses are needed to explain this.
Also, as Ted said, most people do not know anything past 2nd cousin. My husband's 8th cousin was Elvis Presley, but as much as he liked Elvis, he never met him. Elvis never knew my husband existed.
