Is it un-Christianlike of me to be amused and think this is cheap?

My cousin is a dentist who makes probably $200,000 a year, at least. I make less than half of that.

His wife buys the gifts. They gave me ONE bar of soap.
Granted, it is a decorative bar....not Ivory or anything, but still....

I have almost no family.
I would have thought they could have sprung for something a bit more....you know.

(I gave them some nice kitchen towels and potholders.)

I know I ought to be thrilled with any gift, but this seems chintzy.

I am more amused than anything else.

I bathe at least 2 times every day, LOL. My personal hygenine is just fine, thanks. I am aware that all but one of you is joking.

OK, you are right. I see these people once a year at the most. So they could not know if I stink or not.
They DO know I love anything that smells good.

I feel better.

P.S. You are right. My gift was pretty lame.

You know, I had a similar thing happen. I clean for a lady who always gives cheap gifts to me at Christmas. This year, it was a dollar store candle that fell apart when I took it out of the bag. I was boo-hooing about it, and the Lord checked me on this. We need to be grateful for anything we receive, because nobody HAS to give us anything. Plus...God gave us EVERYTHING! Amen?

The marketing we are subjected to in advertising makes Christmas difficult.
It is not about the gifts and not even the costs. Personally I don't like to receive items, I just want my family together for at least a day during Christmas.
They may have a large income however they may have the bills following right behind.
If it is that much of a concern sponsor a child for them next year and they will get monthly updates.
That I have found pulls more heart strings and is what Christmas is a celebration of. Giving. Not necessarily to each other, but reaching out and helping someone you have and may never meet.

I imagine they do not know what to buy you or the wife is maybe tight do they have a lot of people to buy for. some times it becomes quite a headache trying to think of gifts. do not worry about it
I am a little upset as last year my sister said we always buy the same gifts. this year she asked me to make her knitted things which I did but she has shown no sign of giving me any thing despite the fact I baby sat last Thursday and had already given her several pres ants. I actually like bubble bath and ginger..I am more inclined to give small cheep presents but lots to family.

Happy Christmas Batgirl and a peaceful 2008.
You could always send the soap back next year with your next-year gift claiming it was not your colour. Some people don't have a sense of humour though.... and they will never get what Christmas means.

Religious beliefs have nothing to do about feeling amused by being given a bar of soap.

However, the fact that they make twice as much as you make, doesn't mean that they are rich.

My brother makes way above $350,000 a year, and he cannot afford a trip to the Caribbean. I make just under $12,000 a year, and yet I travel the world.

You don't sound amused.

I'm sorry your cousin and his wife are rather selfish, a bar of soap is cheap no matter what kind of money they make.

But, maybe they are Not doing as well as you might think, just because they have a high paycheck doesn't necessarily mean they have a lot of disposable cash.

The more you make the more you spend . . . unfortunately on yourself!

God Bless You

Yeah, I would be a little ashamed to give just a bar of soap... Unless it was really expensive.

Overall, I'd say he was a bit cheap, regardless of his income. This is why Christmas is stupid. All of this over presents.

You could say its the thought that counts, but really, there wasn't much thought to begin with its a bar of soap - something you need, not want.

Your dog was created by God--therefore it's instincts and actions were also created by him too...Just as you get into the shower and wash your "privates" So does a dog however, your dog does not have the ability to turn on the shower and use a washcloth--Therefore--by Nature--uses thier tounge and licks...It's nature my dear--don't be such a religious fanatic..your dog will hump legs too--when you see this--please don't post a question..as this is nature too!

No. People can disappoint you and that is OK that you feel disappointed when that happens.

Some people think that it is a pain to give a good gift to people. They might still be in a huge debt.

At least you gave a good gift.

Ah what the heck. Kitchen towels and potholders don't exactly fire the imagination either. Better luck next year. I still think you're cool Batgirl.
