You don't specify whether you have a 1080p HDTV, nor what the source is.

If you DON'T have a 1080p HDTV you can't get a 1080p picture ... period.

If DO you have a 1080p HDTV, you can get a 1080p picture from a Blu-ray or HD DVD disks on a suitable player (connected via HDMI), or the TV will upscale HD Television programs (720p or 1080i) to 1080p ... however, you have to subscribe to HD programming (satellite or cable) or use an HD capable antenna to receive local HD broadcasts. Finally, you can get 1080p (via conversion by the hDTV) from games if you can feed an HD signal.

If you mean 1080p, the only sources with 1080p content are either game consoles or HD DVD and Blu ray players.
However, your TV will automatically scale all input sources to 1080p.
