You don't need an HDTV for the PS3. If you get a picture and not any audio it's probably because a cable isn't plugged into the proper spot.

If you are using component or composite cables, if just one cable is placed in the wrong spot, you may get picture and no sound, or you can get no picture but you can get sound. Check all of the cables and make sure that they are in the correct places.

Make sure everything is plugged in right

If you don't have an HD TV, make sure the red, yellow, and white cables are in the correct slots

if everything is ok, turn off the ps3, reset the switch in the BACK to on position, and then HOLD THE TOUCH SENSATIVE ON BUTTON IN THE FRONT for about 10 seconds, until it beeps a second time.

It should work after thta.

you do not need a an hdtv. if you dont get any picture on your sreen it means your using the wrong cables or that it is ruined.
