Lauren, you are starting out the right way, enthusiastic and looking to learn. When you take a picture, ask yourself why this would be of interest to someone else. Learn composition, keep shooting and keep hugging that cute dog!
I would like to see your progress.

PS I voted for your smile, too.
PPS Pay no attention to Rita L, I've never seen her make a positive comment to anyone.

You have some very nice photos. I think sirius... had some good comments. I also particularly liked the candle and also the one of (your sister?) looking at the row of candles. The photo with the tree with the golden foliage is also pretty nice. The darker, foreground, foliage on the left side of the photo is a bit distracting. Having something frame the photo is good, but this does not work real well. I think the tree trunk (looking up) photo works well also. My least favorite is the parking lot photo. I guess you were trying to get a silhouette of the mountains, but what I see is a parking lot. Since that is what I focus on, the photo is too dark. It might have worked better if you had cropped the photo and only used the upper left corner. Great job. Consider posting photos on Flickr. I would love to add you as a contact and keep track of new photos you add. Hope you had a very merry Christmas.

You obviously have a fascination with trees.... I think you need to try and put something else in the frame with the trees. The only one of the tree shots that really catch my eye is the second to last one. The colors are really great in that shot.
The shot looking down into the candle is my favorite. It's very creative and sort of abstract.
A few of the pics were not clickable so I couldn't enlarge them to examine closer. The parking lot shot does nothing for me. Maybe at a different time of day when the lighting is more behind you instead of in front of you.
The shot of the birthday candles would have been better if you had focused on the candles instead of the person.

p.s. - I voted for your smile. Good luck

Lauren you are stunning.

However, your photos are not. My eye meanders through them and quickly gets bored. No real composition or point to the images. The lighting, especially, in the car picture, is very bland.
