I do as well, have for 13 years. If you've been taking it a while, you probably just need a dosage adjustment. I had to have that done for the first time after eight years of taking it.

I still don't get why people refer to it as "psychotropic" when it's actually an SSRI (look it up.)

People who are depressed feel very much alone and you company, even though it may not seem that way, is likely to be welcome. Do you have any friends or outing you can join?
There is light ahead of the tunnel so reach toward it.

Safely let go of the stress that your experiencing or gain a greater understanding of the situation.

The best approach is to discover the deeper cause and address this, which will hopefully then result in the coping mechanism disappearing.

Be aware of your own coping mechanisms and move to more functional means of managing stress. Because the mind will play tricks on you, just let it all go.........out the window.

Exercising is the number one rescue to any kind of depression. Avoid sweets, and junk food, coffee, soda for a month, take notes and see how you feel after wards. Write down your feelings in a notebook or journal.

Beware of people who overlook your mistakes and praise too fully. Especially when they start asking you for things.

Are you in counseling? That is really what you should be doing, working on your issues that got you depressed and also making sure it isn't a physical problem.

Have you checked to see if you have SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder)? You can cure that by taking vitamin D and calcium, sitting in the sunlight for 15 minutes a day if possible, getting exercise to elevate the endorphine levels in your brain and eating healthy; no fatty foods, junk, sodas or too many carbs

Also, check your thoughts; are you a positive thinker or negative? Simply by changing from an "absolute" thinker which is negative where a situation that is bad will "never" go away, flip it to the fact that it will pass.

Depression can be a pain to get control of. I have suffered from depression most of my life. I can tell you that some anti-depressants work better than others. You may need to try several before you find the right fit. Also it can take weeks before you know if the one you are on is helping. Many of them have side effects that can be hard to deal with too. The last one I was on gave me terrible nightmares. Talk to your doctor and keep trying. Also exercise and eating right does wonders.

I support therapy AND psychotropic medications - prozac is not a magic pill that by itself will make all your problems go away - prozac will only slow your brain's chemistry down enough for you to begin gaining control of your thoughts - the therapy needs to be there to then help you with those thoughts.

You may need to have your dosage adjusted and also combine your medication with a strict regimen of counseling twice a week. You need to be able to talk about the feelings you are having, not just treat the result of them.

Talk to your doc... you may need an increase in your dosage (which they will help you with, gradually) or a different med altogether. The holidays are a down-in-the-dumps time of the year, anyway... hang in there! :)

Tell your doctor. Maybe your dose can be increased, or maybe it's not the right medication for you.

Also, have you taken it for at least a week? If not, give it a few days and maybe it will "kick in."
