Hey, Troll, we do it because we have just as much of a right to express, argue, and defend our views as you do.
However, unlike you, we do not feel that our beliefs should automatically be respected just because we are dealing with religion. Christian fundamentalists like you are the first to demand that others respect your beliefs, no matter how ridiculous, but YOU are the first, most vocal, and most vicious when someone expresses a theology that disagrees with yours. You are all pure hypocrites.
TROLLS!!!!
Bertrand Russell once said...
"If I were to suggest that between the Earth and Mars there is a china teapot revolving about the sun in an elliptical orbit, nobody would be able to disprove my assertion provided I were careful to add that the teapot is too small to be revealed even by our most powerful telescopes. But if I were to go on to say that, since my assertion cannot be disproved, it is an intolerable presumption on the part of human reason to doubt it, I should rightly be thought to be talking nonsense. If, however, the existence of such a teapot were affirmed in ancient books, taught as the sacred truth every Sunday, and instilled into the minds of children at school, hesitation to believe in its existence would become a mark of eccentricity and entitle the doubter to the attentions of the psychiatrist in an enlightened age or of the Inquisitor in an earlier time."
Richard Dawkins expanded on this thought, quite eloquently, I believe...
"The reason organized religion merits outright hostility is that, unlike belief in Russell's teapot, religion is powerful, influential, tax-exempt and systematically passed on to children too young to defend themselves. Children are not compelled to spend their formative years memorizing loony books about teapots. Government-subsidized schools don't exclude children whose parents prefer the wrong shape of teapot. Teapot-believers don't stone teapot-unbelievers, teapot-apostates, teapot-heretics and teapot-blasphemers to death. Mothers don't warn their sons off marrying teapot-shiksas whose parents believe in three teapots rather than one. People who put the milk in first don't kneecap those who put the tea in first."
Ultimately, we atheists argue against your silly nonsense and book of fairy tales because it is silly nonsense and a collection of fairy tales.
God is a delusion.
It is often argued that religion is valuable because it makes men good, but even if this were true it would not be a proof that religion is true. That would be an extension of pragmatism beyond endurance. Santa Claus makes children good in precisely the same way, and yet no one would argue seriously that the fact proves his existence. The defense of religion is full of such logical imbecilities.
H.L. Mencken
The essence of science is that it is always willing to abandon a given idea for a better one; the essence of theology is that it holds its truths to be eternal and immutable. To be sure, theology is always yielding a little to the progress of knowledge, and only a Holy Roller in the mountains of Tennessee would dare to preach today what the popes preached in the thirteenth century.
H.L. Mencken
God is the immemorial refuge of the incompetent, the helpless, the miserable. They find not only sanctuary in His arms, but also a kind of superiority, soothing to their macerated egos; He will set them above their betters.
H.L. Mencken
We must respect the other fellow’s religion, but only in the sense and to the extent that we respect his theory that his wife is beautiful and his children smart.
H.L. Mencken
For it is the natural tendency of the ignorant to believe what is not true. In order to overcome that tendency it is not sufficient to exhibit the true; it is also necessary to expose and denounce the false.
H.L. Mencken
Religion is fundamentally opposed to everything I hold in veneration -- courage, clear thinking, honesty, fairness, and, above all, love of the truth.

AND MY ALL TIME FAVORITE MECKEN QUOTE...
The way to deal with superstition is not to be polite to it, but to tackle it with all arms, and so rout it, cripple it, and make it forever infamous and ridiculous. Is it, perchance, cherished by persons who should know better? Then their folly should be brought out into the light of day, and exhibited there in all its hideousness until they flee from it, hiding their heads in shame.
True enough, even a superstitious man has certain inalienable rights. He has a right to harbor and indulge his imbecilities as long as he pleases, provided only he does not try to inflict them upon other men by force. He has a right to argue for them as eloquently as he can, in season and out of season. He has a right to teach them to his children. But certainly he has no right to be protected against the free criticism of those who do not hold them. He has no right to demand that they be treated as sacred. He has no right to preach them without challenge. Did Darrow, in the course of his dreadful bombardment of Bryan, drop a few shells, incidentally, into measurably cleaner camps? Then let the garrisons of those camps look to their defenses. They are free to shoot back. But they can't disarm their enemy.

Christians do the same thing you guys post up questions also. (takes two to tango)Everyone does it. Actually I think the difference here is that atheists get more slander from christians in real life whilst christians get more slander on the inter-web. Unlike christians atheists do not get as much freedom with their beliefs (yes I am aware it is the life that there be religious freedom in the USA). Non-christians can hear "you are going to hell" on a daily basis just for being open with their beleifs whilst athiests mostly challenge religious people's religious views.Atheists have to be more tight lipped with their beliefs otherwise they can suffer slander , discrimination as well as other things. It seams like allot of people use the internet as a place to vent and probably atheists probably use it for the same thing to vent there beliefs in privacy. Besides would you preffer no one question your beliefs? How could you grow for that? I think questions and debates are gewd and healthy for everyone because to get involved with those things it usually forces people to think and in thus makes us better as a people.Besides maybe some are just interested in religious topics and find joy in contemplating questions and answering them. I know I have done it because I have interest in those sort of topics.(by the way I hope you know that christmas is actually based off of an old pagan holiday celebrating the winter solstice and research shows that jebus was supposivly born sometime around april and not around december)

You don't challenge atheists or you can't challenge atheists?
Atheism is not a religion, for the same reason that your lack of belief in Thor is not your religion. Understand?
I'm not insecure about my beliefs. After all, I'm not the one posting questions like "Christians, stop asking us atheists questions. We can't answer them and it bothers us. We have a persecution complex and feel that when people offer their opinions they are are attacking our beliefs - That is how weak our beliefs are..." That's what you are doing. That's what you sound like. Who looks insecure, now?
Perhaps, when you are forced to buy groceries with currency that claims you trust in Allah, you'll understand.
EDIT: "You're misunderstanding me. I'm talking about when Christians ask a christian question. Such as a biblical question they need help understanding. Atheists often come in and state something like "there is no god."
Oh, right. And theists are NEVER guilty of this, are they? Theists never come to my house uninvited and force their beliefs on me, do they? Nope, that NEVER happens. You should be thankful that you're only accosted by non-believers online and not in reality...

Every single religion on earth is created by men, not by god.
Religions are used by politicians who know better, to cause frictions between different countries.
About the bible, it uses extremely flowery language with many different interpretations. But then again those people living in that timeline uses super flowery language just to describe the simplest of things/events and objects. It is us who is misinterpreting ordinary events as miracles.
The bible was written by men, not a single word in there is written by Jesus. Jesus really existed, but he could not perform miracle. He was just an ordinary man.
Watch Davinci's code. Lots of truth in it.
We are all wiser now. Chris Angel can fly, maybe he should lead us?
If your wife suddenly gets pregnant and you know its not you, you would believe if she tells you its a miracle?
If you ask a Christian to prove if God is real, they can't. They will only tell u to feel it etc. If you ask an Atheist to prove that God is not real, how can you prove something is not real, if that something is not there to begin with?
God exists, just exactly what god is, is another question. Maybe a piece of rock or watever. Only God knows!

That's where you are mistaken...athiesm is not a religion. Athiesm is the lack of a belief in any god or religion. We feel the need to defend ourselves, because we are constantly buried, to the knee, with christians trying to tell us that we are wrong for not believing in fictitious beliefs, and that we are going to hell. It's rather comical to me, but I'm answering this question from an easily offended athiests point of view.

Atheism isn't a religion for the five thousandth time. It's the absence of belief and if I said it five thousand times then I'll say it again where you have one set of firmly held beliefs and opinions there will most certainly be an opposite set of beliefs and opinions. Why does it rock you off balance that atheists would challenge your beliefs? It shouldn't and if it does then I question how strongly you hold your convictions. Atheists really aren't out to get you. They've got better things to do. Public forum not Christian forum, remember that.

Not every atheist answers every question a theist poses. I know that I don't and there are others that don't either. That would be like asking why ~every~ theist chimes in when a question is asked directly to atheists - and I know that doesn't happen either.
On questions that ask what I believe I will state it; if someone gets their nose out of joint that is their perception. Theists can believe their deities are real, but when asked I'm going to say that they aren't because that is in my belief.

Why do you feel the need to generalize?
I rarely answer questions directed at Christians, and when I do, I give a well thought-out answer pertaining to the subject in my point of view. If expressing my opinion and knowledge is "defending myself", then so be it. But I'm not trying to prove anyone wrong, except you Christians who so compassionately tell me that I'm going to hell.

Do you ever check out other sites? Christians are constantly butting in on the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transexual group, telling people they're going to hell if they continue to be gay, and that being gay is a choice, etc., in response to questions that are in no way asking whether the asker is going to hell, or whether being gay is a choice, etc. Every belief has its share of jerks who enjoy yanking other people's chains and harassing others. Interesting that you acknowledge Christians do this, but you justify it when the Christians do it.
It's my impression that Christians like you think the very existence of the rest of us constitutes challenging you.

Well you can only defend yourself or a point of view when someone chanllenges it.
Maybe they feel thier view is challenged by a certain question put forth so they feel the need to clarify matters or shed some light on the subject.
As long as its done respectfully there is no problem with that! Now if someone is putting your religion down for no reason they need to keep their opinion to themselves!

If they were true believers in their atheism they would not feel the need to be defensive. But they are uncertain because theirs is a faith based on nothing, unlike true believers in Christ whose faith is based on the word of God. They like their sinful ways so much that they feel threatened whenever God is mentioned because despite their rhetoric, there is that nagging suspicion they could be wrong.
