I'm wanting to become a manager at Chili's and hopefully climb the ladder. This next year I will be completing a Bachelors of Business Admin in Management, then completing my MIT training program at Chili's.

Is the restaurant industry a good field to get into, or is it drone work like Retail (Used to be a sales manager at Blockbuster and hated it).

Would completing an associates of applied arts in Culinary be a good move?

Help!!!

Not bad. But in service industry one has to deal wit public with much ease.

The restaurant industry is always looking for people, so in that sense it's a decent are to go into. Pay isn't real high though, and the hours can be less than wonderful.

A manager job probably has similar issues to retail - a lot of drone work, and supervision of a workforce that might not be real professional.

I doubt that a degree in Culinary would make much difference at a chain like Chili's. That would probably be of more use at an independent restaurant where you could develop new menu items.

I was a restaurant manager for a few different chains a few years ago... Hated it. I loved working in the restaurants as an hourly, but the reality of a 50-60 hour work week, and then taking work home with me (writing schedules and dreaming about lowering food cost) wasn't worth it. If I had to do it all over again, I would have changed tacts and become a chef... I love food and cooking, but managing sucked the life out of me...
