Hi- I have had a ham since Thanksgiving in my fridge that has an expiration of Jan 3. Is it OK to cook and serve today? Or should I have frozen it?

I had a 9 pound Cook's Ham in my fridge since Thanksgiving- expiration Jan 3. It was packaged in its original plastic wrap. Is it OK to cook and serve today or should I have frozen it? I don't want to make anyone sick.

If it has been i the fridge, it will be fine, you still have about 10 days, and most of the time hams are good longer than the date says anyway. I would cook it.

It has an expiration date of Jan 3. Why would you think it has expired if it hasne't reached it's expiration date. (unless it says good until Jan 3 if frozen)

Ham is a preserved meat. It lasts for a very long time.

But cook it to an internal temp of 140 to be extra safe.

(Baste with Juice to keep moist)

It is fine to cook today. The expiration date hasn't run out. Ham is salted and cure to hold for a long time at a cool temperature.

Hello,
Most hams are already cooked. They may have added some water to it but this is it.
Open it up, smell, look for discoloration. But it should still be ok.
Make sure it does not smell funny!!

For 99 cents a pound at the store (our store anyway, safeways), you can always go pick up another??
