Probably still green,wood should be left to dry out for at least six months.Some woods,birch and pine for example are really unsuitable as fuel,due to the amount of sap contained they'll invariably spit.
Best woods are oak,holly,chestnut and any fruit woods(Apple,pear,plum).

Well... the wood spits because there is water absorbed in the wood. I advice you keep your supply of wood inside in a dry area. Its should help. :]

The sap in the wood hasn't dried out .. More so in wood with a lot of knots.

Moisture and sap will make your firewood pop and hiss...but never, never, never store your firewood inside unless you want a mouse problem.

your sap wood will dry differently than the heartwood...drying at different rates will cause it to crack...
