Sometimes,it seems that black people tend to put each other down, more than people of the opposite races. Not all black people, but some.If you are an articulate individual, have a college degree,or perhaps, look a little bit different, you're suddenly not black enough or acting white. Why is that some black people tend to accept the darker skinned black folks, and sometimes alienate the lighter skinned?

I realize black folks have been treated wrongfully for so many years by other races, but sometimes,we do it to our own.Nobody has ever been able to explain to me why is it that just because you are a certain color, you have to act,or talk a certain way.Why can't you just be you? What is "Being Black",or "Acting White"?

It all boils down to ignorance, people of all colors have for years been blinded by the package, nobody ever takes a good close look inside, they say that they are not predjudice but in reality, they alll see color, it always struck a nerve with me, when it comes down to needing blood, or an organ donor, they dont seem to care what color package itwas wrapped in, and if you are of lighter skin and educated, I am proud of you, look at statistics, we have more dark skinned individuals incarcerated in this country than light skinned, I think its time, now this is only my opinion, that people put this mistreatment, and slavery thing behind them, it was a terible injustice to there ancestors, and there is no way to make that right, but it was there ancestors pain and suffering, and I being white shouldnt be held responsible for what my ancestors did , we all have to work together if this world is going to continue to exist, every corner of the globe there are people killing eachother over religion, color, and status in society, most religions are traced back to one god, if we are all his children, why do we fight eachother, society and its problems all revolve around money and greed, it has long been said that it is the root of all evil, and in my life I have seen the greed, feed upon itself many times, it is a sad world, your problem is that you have chosen not to pick sides because of race or color, I applaud your decision , there is allot of opportunitys offered to the young black population, but to many refuse to take advantage of them and it is no different with the young whites either, its like I said, greed, everybody wants to get rich quick, but they dont want to work and earn it, they want it given to them. I hope this helped you, at least a little bit, this is a real tuff issue that effects us all. we all need to change, because when the time comes, God dosent have a preferance in color. Please excuse any spelling errors, my spell check is not functioning properly today ? maybe its trying to sensor my reply to your Q !

This is a millionn dollar question, trust me.
I dont understand it either. I find because Im light skinned I get really dirty looks from darker girls (apparently they pressume that 'I THINK IM TOO NICE'). I love my race, RnB music, west indian food, when soca/calypso comes on, I dont sin myself out on the floor but I also dont like Reggae music and I dont like spicy food, this has earned alot of snide remarks from my other black friends that Im a 'bounty' or posh. Im neither.
People make assumptions and stereotype. Some feel that just because Im black I should act and behave a certain way.

It isn't a "race" thing. It's our instinct. All humans have an "us" vs "them" instinct. Goes back to when we were all "tribes", white or black, and it was about survival. So we look for "distinguishers". Things to show who is us, and who is them. Color is an easy way to show us versus them. Add in the slavery and the abuse of Jim Crow history and it is easy to feel betrayed when someone won't act the way you want them too. We're all trying to be above that nonsense because we want to be rational rather than bigots, but it is instinctive to be tribal.

Because some people will believe whatever they're told, while others do their own thing. The ones who turn on their own for being different are the pathetic followers.

It's reverse-racism. Very common these days.
