I'll feed him then when i leave he will follow me to the living room, then he will sleep, then wake up and cry and cry and cry so i follow him into the kitchen and he sits and waits for his bowl to be filled then when i point to it to show him its still pretty much full he realises and starts eating it again.
He also falls asleep at his water bowl.
He is at least 11 or 12.

Older cats do have memory failure,.. I've had over 20 yr. olds that did,.. but I don't consider your cat's age that old.
It may be his eyesight's not as good as before.
The senior cat does need more attention to detail.

Cats do not get Alzheimers disease. However, several other condition may present the symptoms you describe:
1. Common causes of an increased appetite:
- Hyperthyroidism
- Diabetes
2. Common causes of eyesight problems:
- Retinal detachment secondary to high blood pressure (usually secondary to kidney disease)
- Cataract secondary to diabetes or old age
3. Disorientation/ weakness:
- Senility (old age)
- Build up of toxins in the system secondary to kidney / liver disease
- Middle ear disease
- Heart disease and other cardio respiratory conditions
This list is not exhaustive. I recommend that you get your cat checked over by your local vet.
Most UK veterinary surgeries will offer a service called "7up check" which is a thorough exam including blood, urine and blood pressure testing for our senior pets for a bargain price (£50-£80 depending on the practices). This exam may be done once yearly and helps in the early diagnosis of various conditions.

Senility and brain disfunction in animals is documented. As an owner I'd accomodate their level of function as much as possible, so if he needs help, be patient and do what you can to help him understand and deal with things. Some cats just do forget stuff and they get scared about it (the crying) so treat them gently and help as much as possible.

It could very well be possible. Animals can get all kinds of weird things too just like humans can. But who knows!
Maybe he just doesnt have much between his ears.. haha!
He is old!! lol..
Take him to a vet, and discuss with them the problems your cat is having. They should be able to tell you what to do.

Aww poor little guy.
You should talk to his vet. Something does seem to be bothering him.
