Are labradors and/or GSDs prone to bloat? What are some things I can do to prevent it, and tell me a little more about it?

Any larger size dogs are susceptible to bloat if overfed or given an unusual amount of food in one feeding.
It is in layman's term "twisted bowel", 2 smaller moderate feedings would cut the risks. But some dogs are just hereditory proned to it genetically. Not super common though, so don't worry.
Hope this helps.

GDV or commonly called bloat is more prevalent in deep chested dogs. Everything and nothing causes this to happen. I don't recall having seen many labradors presented with this problem. However, GSD's are presented quite frequently with the problem. Essentially this is a condition where the stomach flips, cutting off the circulation from anything going in thru the mouth and going out the backside. This allows for gas buildup in the stomach causing great pain and discomfort to the dog. Only veterinary intervention can correct the problem. Surgery. And surgery is not a guaranteed cure, unfortunately. With the stomach closed off the blood supply is also cut off causing endotoxins to build up, so when the stomach is rotated back to the original position these endotoxins are released into the body and constant monitoring of the patient is essential. Most dogs presented with this problem to go home and resume a normal life, a few are lost to complications of the condition.
The surgery consists os tacking the stomach to the abdomenal wall preventing the stomach from flipping/twisting again.
There are theories to prevent this condition from occurring. Such as don't feed or water you dog before excersise, and vise versa. Feed small frequent meals. Feed 2 meals a day, in the am and pm. No one protocol works. The only common factor in this condition is a deep chested dog. I have even seen dachsunds presented with this condition. Like I said everything and nothing causes this condition to occur.

Any deep chested dog can suffer bloat. There is a surgery to prevent bloat, but I don't like unnecessary surgeries.
There is a acupressure point that can be tried, but this should only be done on the way to a vet.

Yes. GSD more than Labs, but both can bloat.
