Why do you credit Him with atrocities? That is not a logical pattern of thought. If a being is not, then it cannot. People have always been atrocious and always will be. Since God does not exist you must now admit that this is truth.

Again, you are still attributing to God what belongs to man - guilt. Why decide that God then is non-existent just because you don't like what people do in His name?

They are not really atheists but "God haters"

(Gal 6:7) Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

Atrocities by who's standard, yours? Who are you God?

I am a former atheist and I will address your question about God being credited with unleashing atrocities. Any atheist who is a true atheist, (rather than simply having animosity towards God for some reason), knows that anything that doesn't exist cannot cause any acts. The atheists I know only use this as a means of bringing libel against the existence of God by pointing out a paradox. This is really logical thinking and deductive reasoning in that people in the Christian sector are always talking about how loving and forgiving God is. However, when reading some of the horror stories in the Bible of God's mass destruction, atheist will ask "if God is all good then why does he either cause, or allow such atrocities to occur?" Again, this isn't saying that one believes God is committing the atrocities, but rather using logical thinking and deductive reasoning to point out a paradox.

I think you've missed the point of the atheists' argument.

It's a reductio ad absurdum. Atheists do not believe in god, and therefore do not "credit Him with atrocities". What atheists do is point out that believers' claim of an omnipotent, purely good god is contradicted by the existence of atrocities. Conclusion: there is no omnipotent, purely good god.

No-one does that.

Why persistently lie just to avoid confronting the falsehood of your religion? And on Christmas Day, yet? Have you no morality at all?

I'm not crediting any god with stupid acts and atrocities, I'm crediting those who commit said atrocities "in the name of God". I know God doesn't exist, or any god for that matter, but those who think he does do some crazy sh*t, and should be responsible for their actions.

I have never credited--nor blamed--god for any atrocities. What many atheists (and agnostics) do is criticize the people who commit atrocities *in the name of their god*. Yes, people have always committed atrocities, and usually it's because they believe their "god" tells them to do so.

I don't know if there is a god--nor do I believe it's possible to prove either way--but a lot of ugly stuff goes down in "his" name. To me, it's people desperate to avoid responsibility for their actions.

Not all atheists do so you shouldn't generalize. Personally, I have never blamed non-existent deities for the atrocities that have happened on this planet - that is entirely the responsibility of the human race. As such, it is also the responsibility of the human race to fix it.

Humanity as a whole is intrinsically good, it is only a small minority who choose to cause harm and destruction.

He is not being credited with the atrocities. Atheists find it difficult to believe there could be a God that would allow these things to happen.

The problem was probably best coined by English philosopher David Hume in these terms:

Is he [God] willing to prevent evil, but not able? then he is impotent. Is he able, but not willing? then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? whence then is evil?

Crediting god with atrocities is like crediting Harry Potter with his magical powers. It's fiction. I believe that's the point. I don't believe there is a 'real' Harry Potter, and they don't put his books in the non-fiction section either.

I don't. I BLAME human beings for perpetuating atrocities upon other innocent human beings, claiming that they are acting in accordance with the laws and/or commands of this fictitious god that they made up for a variety of reasons, one of which was to have a clear conscience when they reamed and massacred the people who were there before them and who disagreed with their foolish monotheistic bull sh it.

We don't credit him with atrocites. We credit people saying he inspired them to do it with atrocities. Any Atheist crediting god for an atrocite is either trying to make a joke or is actuall an agnostic.

Boy, you're desperate aren't you? Your god doesn't exist, I don't attribute him with atrocities. The bible does. And the people who believe in him follow his example.
