UCLA, USC, try the LA zoo, Westwood is a great shopping area, so is Pasadena's Colordo Blvd. they are both reasonable places to shop. Also, Gripth Park, La Bera Tar pits, Disneyland (a bit pricy), try going to a museum, downtown LA. These are just a few places to visit in the marvloues city of Angles.

Welcome to one of the most expensive cities of the world. To find something cheap you need be with locals, but normally restaurants are expensive created for tourist.
I live in Anaheim and are cheap places but always when you like something better you have to pay more.
Get the idea you have to expend money and try to stay away of the down town LA, it's very dangerous.
