It's Christmas, and I was so excited for it. I've been listening to Christmas music for weeks, and enjoying the music and liking how pretty the decorations and everything is.
Now that it's here, I'm not so much into the holiday spirit. I love the music, the decorations and spending time with family, so I don't understand why I feel so irritable and depressed.
Everything is going good today. I got some really great stuff. I have my family with me. The music is nice.
But right now all I feel like doing is covering my head with a pillow and sleeping.
Why am I feeling like this, and what can I do to stop it?
I feel like I'm wrecking my family's and my own Christmas. :(
Please help :( I've never felt this bad before

Nope, I am married and visiting my family for Christmas, and I didn't touch a drop of alcohol.
I also was diagnosed with depression and on meds so that could have something to do with it, but not all.
And yes, I did get some nice presents and really appreciate them, so I don't know why I'm not happier

During the holidays there is so much hype and excitement that people just go nuts with expectations of this "perfect" day.
Be realistic and enjoy the day for other reasons now; the sun is shining, it's crisp and cool--take a walk and enjoy the sights.
This morning I enjoyed watching groups of different kinds of birds eat berries outside my living room window with my cat (who really enjoyed that!).
Find joy in the simple, real things today. Think of all you have to be grateful for today. If you can, see if you can help someone else out; homeless on the streets need food and shelter--give a hot meal and blanket.

Unrealistic or unrealized expectations all focused on the special day. Sometimes its the anticipation we've built up that acts against us-life is seldom as perfect as we'd imagined it'd be.
Why not open a dialogue-share with family or friends your feelings on the subject? Chances are, you'll gain some insight and find others struggle same as you. Since it IS a special day, you should make every effort to join in and socialize as much as possible-nap later. Interact and it'll lift your spirits-guaranteed!
Maybe a holiday visit to those less fortunate? Many folks go thru the holidays without family, so you should dip into that joy, and then spread it around some. Look out, stop looking inward so much; you'll find your in a very comfortable, warm and happy place. Do some giving to those truly in need; you'll find it'll make you feel GOOD.
Best Wishes!

Don't worry your not the only one, i was actually considering hanging myself but then i decided that depression is selfishness. So i started doing things for other people to keep my thoughts off myself and my sadness. So far its working and i feel a little better i just need to be consistent for 3 more weeks when it will finally become a habit. Maybe you should spend time doing acts of service for your loved ones and eventually move on to random strangers. Also you might have seasonal depression, where you get depressed during winter, its an actuall condition. Not for me though i feel like this 365 days.

There could be a number of reasons why you feel the way you do, its really not that uncommon. You should just relax and enjoy the time with your family. Sometimes I get sad during holidays becuase I think back of past Chrsitmas's and remeber the people who were there and arent now. Your not alone, so just relax, itl be ok

i could say the ideal way is to get accessible interior the subsequent couple of weeks and volunteer like loopy!!! The Salvation military desires bell ringers to stand and ring the bell at procuring facilities to assemble money. If the time table is done, ask if there is the rest you're able to do. they have a pair of million toys to distribute, so i'm constructive that they had savor the help. Do you have acquaintances? if so, do some thing advantageous for them. Take them some fruit and candy for Christmas. Bake them some cookies (you may take care of the slice & bake kind, i'm constructive). circulate to between the community church homes and ask if there is everybody in desire of a few greater suitable help for the period of the holiday journeys. There may be somewhat previous woman accessible who desires her sidewalk swept or her motor vehicle washed. specific, it quite is going to likely be annoying engaged on Christmas eve, yet in simple terms attempt to no longer concentration on what you're lacking. in case you have helped others for the period of the days up till that component, you would be thinking reliable suggestions of ways plenty difference you have made interior the lives of others by applying giving of your self. God bless you!

Are you single? Some single people feel sad this time of the year.
Did you drink alcohol? It's a depressant.
Did you not get any nice presents?
