I was raised as a Roman Catholic, spent more than ten years associated with a religous order and spent six years in that order studying for the priesthood.
If you invest your time in studying the Torah and other Judaic writings in Hebrew, and then study the historical development of the New Testament, as well as the history of the Roman Catholic church (i.e., the actualy history and not the picture the church likes to present) the last thing you will ever want to do is to become a Catholic.
I would liken such to someone saying that he or she would like to become a lawyer and an honest person or, like a person who says they want to become a politican and a humanitarian.
Needless to say, as I learned more and more and asked more and more questions about the discrepencies in practices, teachings, mistakes in translations of the Torah and other Judaic writings when they became the "Old Testament" (and don't let anybody tell you they are the same because they are not), how the canonically accepted "Gospels" came to be the ones that were accepted and what happened to those who had other opinions, once I began to translate and read the "non-accepted" Gospels (Barnabas, Peter, Thomas, Mary, Judas, etc.) and studied the Coptic Gospels a bit, etc., etc., I knew that the truth was out there somewhere but not in the Catholic church!
If you really beleve that the church is where God/YHWH/Allah, Subhanna wa Ta'ala is leading you then good luck.
If you want to convert go see your parish priest and get enrolled in the RCIA program. After completing that year long course, you will be baptized and made a formal member of the church the following Easter.
As to telling your family, that will all depend upon how old you are, whether or not you are self supporting, etc., etc., etc.
Before you formally become a member of the church, study and investigate all three of the world's major monotheisitic religions. You might be surprised as to what you find and where.
I will pray for your right guidance.
Ma'a salaam.

Indeed; do not pay any attention to these "fundamentalist" Christians on here who don't realize that their type of Christianity only goes back to the early 1900s.
The Church (note the capital C) dates back to Abraham if not further, and extends forward into time. These people answering here who are telling you "don't do it" don't realize the full scope of what the Church really is.
So, go to your local parish and talk to a Catholic priest. Get into classes. Study and learn; you'll be AMAZED at the strength and depth of Catholic spirituality. It's really mind-blowing and you CAN get to the "peace that passeth understanding" with Christ in that way.
Good luck and Happy Christ's Mass

I understand you. You can simply start saying that you're going to tha church every sunday (i do not mean that you're telling them that: when sunday comes you tell your family "I'm going to the church" and if they ask why you can say you are curious or that you just want to) After some time, you parents will get used to the fact that you go to the church. They'll get used to this. You can ask you local priest for help to be baptized and after some time you can tell your family you're going to get baptized. I don't think it will be too sudden that way, they'll surely think they saw it coming. If they ask you why, you can answer:
1) If God exists but you don't belive you lose the paradise. If He doesn't exist and you belive, you lose nothing. If He doesn't exist and you don't belive, you don't win a thing.
2) Because i belive in my Lord. If He exists I have a reason to live, if he doesn't no one has.
3) An action doesn't need a reason. The only desire to make it decides its value and the desire to make an action considered good is enough reason to do it.
I'll keep thinking.

first of all how old are you? Just tell them (your family) that you have a desire and a need to convert to Catholicism. Then go to the local Catholic church and talk with the priest.

Before you take a final decision in this regard I would plead you to log on to metahistory.org and read the great research works of John Lash about catholicism.

If you are interested in joining or just learning more about the Catholic Church, contact your local parish and ask about information about their RCIA Inquiry group.
You can go and ask any questions you want.
This is the first step in RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) but you can stop at any time.
There is no obligation to become a Catholic.
With love and prayers in Christ.

whoa a couple anti catholics i see lol....well first of all it's not going to be easy, all change has it's consequences. So yes, if you want help your best bet is to prepare yourself for criticism (kind of like that below lol) and be prepared to pray. Being Catholic is waaaaaaaaaay more than going to Mass, a lot more. So yes, best advice to do it "formally" is contacting a local priest. This can go on foreverrrrrr lol, but if you have any other questions feel free to email me =]

Please do not do any thing that you do not know .That will be sensible .The problem today is that people get into trouble by doing what they really do not know, despite their being fully aware of that specific fact !
So steer clear of troubles for yourself and for others ..If religion is for service to others / the humanity , you would serve the humanity by not doing anything in your present condition./position.That is the greatest religion.that you can embrace !
Charity begins at home .Serve your parents first .Serve those who gave you the life first . you come to know of the unseen hiding God only long after you came to know of your parents . the Gods very much closer and visible to you.

You have not mentioned as to who you are and why you want to convert to another faith.
Conversion means definite and decisive adoption of a religion! You most know it well and stick to it and not give it up according to your mood.
