Preheat your oven to 450. Take the stuff out of the cavity of the turkey. You know where the hole is thats where the giblets and neck are. You can cook those in a quart size pan with water. You need a meat thermometer.
Ok, now wash the turkey with cold water inside and out.
Pat dry. Rub oil all over it, season with salt and pepper.
Put in a large pan. Cover it with foil, not real tight.
So for a 5 pound turkey without stuffing inside the cavity, you cook for about 2 1/2 hours.
Check once in awhile, you can even baste it with the juice from the bottom of the pan. You use the thermometer to check it also, to check to see if the inside is done. You stick that into the turkey where the breast is and read it. When it reads 170 degrees your turkey is done.
Enjoy and Merry Christmas.

Turkey is easy, like a big chicken!! Lol...but seriously, it really is easy. To make sure it's juicy, don't over cook whatever you do. Follow the directions on correct oven temp. and baste, baste, baste.

I love the old fashioned turkey seasoning you buy (the little yellow box with the turkey on it), it's the best. Don't salt the turkey, leave that for people eating their own portion. I think salt dries it out while cooking.

Remember to let it "rest" for about 15 minutes out of the oven when done to give the juices a chance to settle in the meat. Then carve (see a good cook book) accordingly and serve. Yummy! My favorite anytime.

If you feel nervous, check out Martha Steward's website, she always has good instructions and tips.
