What kind of litter is he used to?????? If it's yesterdays news you can place a little on the bottom. If it's clay or scoopable litter, try placing a small amount in the bottom of the litter pan with the other litter on top. It will still give him something familiar to scratch in and make the transition easier on him. Check his paws as often as you can if you do this to make sure they are clean and no litter is sticking to them to cause a problem, until he heals totally from surgery

It probably hurts his feet. Declawed cats have a lot of pain with the surgery. Most vets recommend the use of Yesterday's News litter. It's dangerous to use clumping or clay litter, as it can cause infection in a newly declawed cat. Give him at least a couple of weeks before trying the Feline Pine again, or he may always have an aversion to it.

I had my cat declawed (all 4) when she was a little older because I didn't morally believe in amputating the toes. That was until she started shredding my brand new bed. She was around 2 years old. I trimmed her nails often but she still was shredding my bed. When I brought her home, she went under the bed and stayed there for about 5 days. I let her because I knew her feet hurt. I gave her her food and water under the bed and took her out once or twice daily to use the litter box. I carried her to it and put her in it, but let her walk back to the bedroom so she would put some pressure on the feet so it would help the healing process. After 5 days she came out by herself. It took some time for her to adjust, but now 8 years later, she doesn't miss those claws and gets around just fine.

Cats who have been declawed have all sorts of problems - litter boxes are only one of them.
He may never use a litter box again or you just may have to try 3 or 4 different kinds until you get one that he'll use with his mangled feet.

Use something soft that won't get into the wounds. Shredded newspaper is good.

Ripped up newsprint worked for us the twice we had to deal with this. We ripped paper for a month each time. Boooooring...but HEY...our fingers weren't bleeding.

Don't be surprised if he never uses litterbox again. It is not fun digging with amputated fingers!

use scredded paper...in a couple of days he will---you don't want him to get infection in his paws
