I haven't done this, but I was curious, lol.
I always close the toilet lid before flushing, because I fear the toilet water aerosolizing as the water spins and spraying around the bathroom, contaminating everything with pee water. Don't call me crazy- I saw this on Dateline once!
Do you think it's over the top to get a little plaque made to hang in the bathroom that says please close lid before flushing, so that guests don't flush without dropping the lid first?
And if you went to someone's house and saw this, would you close the lid first or ignore it??

I think that sounds like a great idea to put a sign up and if you wanted to post that sign in your own bathroom you would have every right to because it's your home and if i went to some one Else's home and saw that sign i would be amused and i would be happy because some one else is a clean freak like me

I heard something about the toilet water aerosolizing pretty high too. It is a disgusting thought. I think it's fine to close the lid to flush. Anything that reduces spreading germs sounds good to me.
Have you heard though of people that flush the toilet BEFORE they use it, even if there is nothing in the toilet to flush? I worked with some people like that. I won't say it's cultural because I don't know for sure. The two women that did it were from another country.
If I saw they kind of plaque, I'd probably do it most of the time. If there was a little explanation, like "for the health and safety of others, please close the lid before flushing. thank you", I'd probably be more likely to do it.

I do the same thing for the same reason, plus if the lid isn't down my cat will sit on the seat and splash water all over the wall and floor. I don't think I'd put a sign up though. If I saw a sign in someones home I'd close the lid

I can't fault you for your thinking which i think may be a little too cautious.... If it makes you feel a little better why not do it.. i close it to keep the pets out of it ....

your home.... do what you want BUT anyone coming to your home, ill ask why, and it will become a conversation piece.... i do the same thing!!!
