Here I sit looking at some Christmas gifts that were given to my husband, a carved out wooden giraffe that holds eye glasses and a carved elephant. I look and say to myself very nice, then I look on the bottom to see who carved it and it said "MADE IN CHINA"

So I am thinking two things. One: Why don't these big stores buy from local Artisans in the United States? Why from China?

Then I think what if everyone in America stopped shopping till the big stores stopped buying from China so they can help people in America with jobs and keep their money here in the US. So when we buy something it says,"MADE IN AMERICA" knowing the product helped someone get a paycheck in AMERICA.

Is this possible? Do Americans have enough power to stop these big corporate stores from supporting China? OR are we Americans going to ignore it and just keep buying items from big corporate and do nothing. Knowing that we in America have homeless, and poor people also like the other countries.

I know what you mean:

American Company's send the assembly and manufacturing work to China because labor is cheap over there. It's no excuse, but the main goal is to create the most profit possible.

Most times, the quality of these products is a lot less than those made here in the U.S. We can fight it by boycotting these products and writing letters to the companies that still outsource their work.

Think about customer service! You call and you're talking to someone in India who has an issue with the English language.

The cost of some items like VCR's and clothes would be over $200 if manufactured here. If not China, they will go to India or Indonesia or Thailand. The corporations will go where ever they pay workers around $30 a week. Just enough to get food. It is sad but true. Would you buy a $200 VCR? Or would you buy a vertical blind that costs $100 instead of $5?

The answer is simply complicated. No man is an island. China needs US and US needs China. Trying to balance the export/import surplus/deficit is complicated. Without export/import system of trade, no country will thrive. It is the
willingness and ingenuity of the government and its people to
stay ahead of the fierce global market which will eventually translate to prosperity. Protectionism is not the answer to the homeless and the poor.
