Smaller breeds "grow up faster" than large breeds. That is to say they reach their adult weight and height anywhere between 8-12 months. Larger dogs tend to reach their adult weight and height between 10-14 months.
Although most people define a dog to be adult at 12 months, many dogs are mentally immature long past the day that they reach their adult weight and height.

The answer above is not always accurate. I know that at 12 months, most puppies are considered adult, but my Cocker Spaniel is not considered adult at this age. Everyone that I have contacted seems to think that maybe at 2 years, he will be an adult, but it may take longer. I truly believe that it depends on the breed!

Typically eight to eighteen months. How long puppyhood lasts depends on the breed and size of the dog. Very small dogs can reach adulthood at 8 months. Large breed dogs reach adulthood around 12 months. Giant breeds can stay puppies until 18 months.

that depends on the breed....the smaller breeds mature faster than bigger breeds...but they actually mature by six months old...but by an adult dog would be about 1 year or so.
