Depends on what you will be doing with it. Deer hunting-.270. Target shooting-.308. The .270 is a little flatter shooting and a little harder hitting; the .308 is more accurate.
For the manual, I would contact Savage directly:

Although the .270 is certainly a good calibre, factory ammo is not usually loaded to the cartridge's potential. The idea that a long-action calibre is inherently more powerful is only half-truth. The .308 is loaded to pressures that manufacturers have considered unsafe for the .270, so that today's .308 approximates the .30-06 as used in the Great War, with some loads surpassing that. (Modern .30-06 loads compare favourably with the original .300 H&H, the grandfather of belted magnum calibres.) The .270 achieved its lasting popularity during the small-bullet / high-velocity trend of post-ww2 marketing, coupled with the claim that it was easier to shoot than its parent the .30-06. However, recoil velocity is still a significant factor, as is blast and noise, all of which are lessened in the short-action .308, even with heavier bullets. And these heavier bullets, 165 to 180gr, although not quite as flat-shooting, will retain energy better and penetrate deeper than the lighter bullets of the .270. You won't notice a difference on deer, but for elk, moose, bear, and bad guys with body armour, the .308 gets the nod. Not to mention paper targets at 1000 yards.

As for the manual, just go to the Savage website and request the manual for the specific model you have. I did this several months ago and they also sent me the trigger adjustment screwdriver for the accu-trigger for free. It only took about a week to show up. Great service. Now for which caliber. I own both the 270 and the 308. If I could have only one, it would be the 308. It has so many different types of loads to cover different types of hunting. Bullets range from 125 grn up to 220 grn. Not to mention how inherently accurate the 308 is. Good luck and take a friend shooting, we need as many pro-gun friends as we can get.

As an all-around cartridge, I'd go with the .308 Win.
Write Savage for a copy of the owners manual.

It's going to be hard to find a physical copy of that maunal and you will have to pay a pretty penny for it. If you have any questions bring her to your gunsmith.
As far as the rounds. You will be able to find .270 anywhere and even in gas stations. Its a nice round. It's super cheap and good ballistics.
If you are getting a new rifle get a .308 this is a nato round so there will always be plenty of ammo. The effective range is farther with this round and you can take down larger game than with the .270

I already own several rifles, both semi-auto and bolt-action, all chambered for the 7,62x51NATO (.308 Winchester) cartridge, and one of the foremost reasons I chose this round is the still-plentiful amount of military surplus ammunition and components on the market, which one will not find for the .270.
You can obtain a manual for your 111 from Savage Arms itself, either by mail, or, possibly from their company website.

I would probably get the .270 because it is a flat shooting gun that will not have as much recoil as the .308. Also I use 150 grain shells in my .270 rather than the standard 130 grain shells.

.308 is a great round, If it wasn't the military wouldn't use it.
.270 is also a great round, If it wasn't I wouldn't use it.
.243, .270, .30-06, .308, 30/30 are all great rounds, but only as good as the shooter

I prefer the 30-06, because you have a greater variety of bullet weights to choose from, and when you have a 30-06 you don't need any other rifle.* It will harvest any game in North America cleanly.* I prefer to use the 180 or 220 grain bullets.* If you are thinking about choosing between the 270 or 308, I would go with the 308.* You don't really need the owners manual for the rifle.*

Nothing is wrong with either rifle or cartridge. Take a look at the ballistics of both rifles. I think most will be amazed at the .308. Yes,, it is a very accurate rifle.. one of the most accurate. It at one time was the preferred cartridge of the marine Snipers.
