I believe the answer is so over whelming self-evident.
All cultures have or have had some form and religion. The wonders of the world are just to great for the human mind to naturally accept.
Even in evolution its seems necessary. Once death is recognized, it seems natural that thoughts of a soul or spirit would emerge as the dead are honored and remembered, this concept opens the realm of religion.
I believe it is impossible for mankind to exists without wondering how and why and until we know all the answers ( I don't think we ever will ), those things we can witness yet not understand will force a belief as to how and why, leaving the door open to religion

Yes and much better. Without religion;
The strongest hindrance to progress is now removed.
- The possibility of dark ages brought about wars and man-made catastrophe through nuclear wars (and wars is almost always about religion) is now out of question.
- The value of life is realized even more. Research will be towards prolonging active life as much as possible by eliminating diseases and alleviating, treating and curing aging.
- More focus on human rights and not religious rights. Take a closer look at the US and you'll realize that religious rights takes precedence here above all else.
- Ultimately a movement to eradicate death.
Truly if there are other advanced civilizations in the universe that has transcended religion, they must have come to the point of being able to transcend death itself but not through a religious mystical sense.

We'd limp along as we are now. People will always find reasons to fight. Big religions of the world actually preach peace and understanding, even Islam that says you shall never kill a kneeling enemy asking for their life. With no religion I think more people would argue over moral shades of gray but they'd be by interest groups or something else instead of religious groups. A lot of groups claim to fight for their god but there are usally different motives, not some sort of enlightment found using an AK-47. Religion is just a tool many warlords or leaders use to urge their people to die for whatever reason. Without religion another tool will be found and used to get people to fight for unjust causes. I heard a saying that said 'You don't need to be smarter then your country to manipulate them, you just have to dumb everyone down,' in a nutshell dumb people get manipulated into anything.

No. Then politics would be man's "religion". I think organized religion is necessary... if only to lessen the power of politics. Religion is government's biggest rival.

The world would be a much better place if religion was kept private; in the home and church where it belongs.
Religious beliefs and differences have been at the root of every war in history.
The nutcases are everywhere.......

Yes. But without any opinion or speculation about the afterlife our greatest civilizations will fall. You see, as a sentient species we need to answer unanswerable questions the best we can.

I guess I don't understand your question.
Do you mean could we live without a God? Not a chance.
Or do you mean could we live if we refuse to believe in Him? Sure, for a short while.

Since the dawn of ages, humanity had never known a time when God didn't exist. Think about that.
