I have a collection of recipes that I have collected over the years. Not my recipes other recipes found in newspaper articles, other cookbooks, online, etc. Can I create a nice booklet and sell them?

Ok I see I am getting mixed answers here, some say sure why not,and others say no because they belong to someone else. Problem is I never see any authors name's behind any recipes that I have collected. If you find the latter to be true give me a resource to back it up.

No, they are someone else's recipes! My brother in law is a patent lawyer (he's sitting right here). He's saying a big "Are you crazy?" You could be in trouble down the road if someone recognizes a recipe and has proof that he/she is the rightful author. Look what recently happened to Jessica Seinfeld!

You may not see an author's name, but isn't it just plagerism in a nice booklet? Why dont you create your own recipes and sell those instead, that way there is no issue of plagerism or copyright infringement laws.

Better yet, post the same question in Law & Ethics section of YA and see what all the other lawyers have to say!

You do have to pay attention to copyright laws. But, you can't copyright a list of ingredients or standard recipes that are pretty much in the public domain.

You can try selling them on ebay. It would certainly be an inexpensive experiment. Booklets are not cheap to have printed. I know because I've done it several times. I'd try it as an e-book.

The reality is that there would have to be something really unique about your collection. And you'd better be able to write a really good ad.

I've made a little money self-publishing booklets that my husband and I have written...I've made more money with part time jobs.

There are millions of free recipes on line. Unless your recipes are spectactular, I would save my time and effort.
