As you do not state where you are from, I give you the link to the European coach site:
http://eurolines.com/

I entered the travel London-Rome, and it could not find any date till 2 Jan 08, and then it will take 31 hours 30 minutes, (total waiting time less than 2 hours.)
A single, adult traveler would pay £77.00

If you are a young person, old person or have other causes for reductions it might be cheaper.
If you travel from an other town/country the price will be different too.
And maybe you can still get a ticket for the days between Christmas and NYE, go to or phone one of the ticket offices and ask. (Price is likely to be higher if it is possible.)

Time expected as given by the timetable on the coach line site. (I corrected, 20 minutes into 30 minutes.)
(I would never travel for such a long time in a bus if there were other ways to travel available.)

Added:
You best go to the link in sources, there you choose the country to travel to, and it will be easy to select the towns after that.
As standard departure town you will find London, Victoria bus station.
But to get the price you will need to enter details like your age and whether you want to get the cheapest ticket or want to be able to change the date. Single, fixed dates return, open return and so on.

If you can not get it sorted on-line, go to a place where they sell ticket for the bus, as the people there know the system and will help you work it out.
