The best airplane ever built by Boeing has to be the B-17! After all, if it weren't for the B-17, we wouldn't have won the war! (WWll)

Depends on the application. For example nothing beats the 777 at efficency and cost on a long range mission. But a 717 is much more feisable to operate for short hop's. The 737 can take a lot of cycles and the 727 and 757 have superb high and hot preformance where density altitude is high.

This answer is from someone who lived in Seattle. (Actually Kent, WA.) Anyone who worked for Boeing in the 70's will tell you it is the 747 that saved the company. No one thought that big beast would be able to even get off the ground. (Think "Spruce Goose".)

Just entering Boeing 747 in your search engine will tell you much more than I can here as far as the new 747-400F (The newest version) goes. But everyone in the Seattle metro area was happy as a clam when the big bugger not only flew, but flew very well. PBS has a series on the design and construction of the first 747. Very informative, and frankly quite amazing. Check out the remarks of the first test pilot. He actually did a barrel roll in that big bugger!

In my profile you will see I went to school to become an aircraft mechanic. The 747 was just being put into production at that time. We were all in awe, being used to the 707 being the "king of the hill". Seeing a 747 up close for the first time was a real shock.

The 747 may not be the best plane in the world, (Bite my tounge!) but as far as the people that designed it and worked on it are concerned, it's what made Boeing the company it is today. Fairly bloated, but still an industry leader. Check out the "dreamliner" when you get a chance.

Have to say 777. While it excells at high density, long haul flights, it is quite capable on short hops too, as SQ and VN have found. Looks amazing and the 300ER and 200LR series feature the most powerful jet engines today. Safety also shines through here, no fatal accidents and only very minor incidences in its operating history. Boeing definately played their cards right here.

Even though it's not part of your line up, I have to go with the B-17, based on it's durability. I've heard many stories about having one and two engines out, pieces missing, and the air rushing through the fuselage from the gaping holes, and it still could bring it's crew home. By the way, 12,038 were built at an average cost of $35,000 each.

I'm going to go with the B-17. It was very well built, was continually improved and helped to win a very long war.
