The holidays called "bank holidays" in the UK are called "public holidays" in Australia. Christmas Day and Boxing Day are public holidays and the banks are closed. New Years Day is another Public Holiday. Thursday is a Public Service holiday and the Public Service (Civil Service in the UK) has a extra day off.

Because of the days the public holidays fall on this year, many people will be taking a few days out of their annual holidays to get a long break. A public servant who takes three days of recreation leave on Christmas Eve, this Friday and New Years Eve gets an 11 day break from end of work on Friday 21 December to going back to work on Wednesday 2 January. Many will be doing it.

If you need anything from a Government department, you'll have to wait til next year.

It is in the UK. It is also in some Commonwealth countries but do not know which ones.

Businesses in the UK will not be open. Shops, restaurants, and pubs are likely to be open to some extent. Public transport will be operating a significantly reduced service.

confident, found out once I arrived on the submit workplace. of direction, no sign indicating it grew to become right into a Fed trip. Spoke to a central authority worker and he shown it grew to become right into an afternoon without work for Feds. BTW: the community banks have been closed as nicely as we talk.
